My self-summary
**Woohoo new feature: if you don't want to wade through the wall of text below, the video digest is here. It's worth a shot maybe?**

Like any good story, I should probably start off with an interesting, compelling character. Let's hope that's me!

Here's who I am in a nutshell: I'm one of those individuals who stands at the intersection of nerdiness and artsy-fartsy-ness. Yeah, we exist, and we're actually alright.

On the one hand, I'm an intellectual. Not only am I employed in my science of choice (the computer variety), but of course I indulge in a few of the things that stereotypically follow. I have an impressive Steam backlog, I (used to) know way too much about the Star Wars universe, I frequently make meme references in casual conversation, etc. If you Google my full name, you might find something rather embarrassing. (Yes, that's a link. Sorry mobile users!)

Aside from all the nerdiness, I really do love the pursuit of knowledge. Being a philosopher of sorts, I'm quite fond of a wide range of subjects. While I have spent quite some time refining my views, I pride myself on keeping an open mind and engaging in logical discourse. If you can prove me wrong, then you earn many kudos!

On the other hand, I do have somewhat of a creative streak in me *gasp*. I try and expose myself to the many manifestations of art when I can, but what fascinates me most is storytelling in all of its forms. Since I have no talent whatsoever with visual media, I tend to stick to the written word. Way too much of my time is spent dissecting plots and analyzing characters.

I'm a great zombie.

So that's chapter 1. Our intrepid protagonist has been introduced! Onto chapter 2...
What I’m doing with my life
I graduated 2 years ago with a B.S. in Computer Science and Philosophy. I'm working full time as a software engineer for now, so that takes up most of my time. Woo woo code! I don't write video games and I'm not working for google or microsoft. I could elaborate if you'd like, but expect to get bored. Unless you're into code deployment/development philosophy in which case where have you been all my life?

If I have my way, I will eventually finish a few novels. Most of my free time is being funneled into "publishing" the first of a medium-fantasy series (think in between Martin and Tolkein).
I’m really good at
Here are some things that I think I'm pretty alright at:

*MOBA's (Heroes of Newerth, Smite, DOTA 2, etc)
*Daydreaming
*Board games (euro games especially! Truth be told, I can't stand Settlers of Catan though)
*World building / plot crafting
*Moon gazing
*Magic: The Gathering
*Doing barrel rolls
*Programming (C# and Java are my forte, but I know some Lisp)
*Philosophy, particularly epistemology
*Eating dark chocolate
*Lists with blue highlighted text

And here are some thing I'm not particularly good at, but am very interested in. Perhaps you could teach me some?

*Cooking, especially awesome spicy dishes or tasty pastries
*Spinning poi
*Art history
*Any ancient mythology and their sociological impacts
*Fencing
*Urban fantasy
*Historical fiction
*Finding good coffee shops in DC
*Polyphasic sleep. I used to be on the Uberman schedule in college, and I'd very much like to get back on it.
The first things people usually notice about me
Usually the height or the eyes, which seem to be the most generic responses around here. I have fairly long hair for a guy; some like it, some don't, your mileage may vary. There's a small bit of green in the front of it, so some people notice that.

Personality-wise, I typically bide my time and observe in conversations. Once you get me on a topic I like, though, good luck on getting me to stop.

Also that I always wear headphones. No, seriously. In college I was well known throughout my department as "headphones kid". The CEO of my company once looked at me in shock when I got into the elevator without them on.

A friend once described me as "unnecessarily polite". She never elaborated on whether or not that was a good thing...
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: I'm a sucker for fantasy, sci fi, and psychological thrillers. Very in-depth world-building also grabs my interest, and I have a soft spot for dystopias. Examples: A Song of Ice and Fire series, The Abhorsen Trilogy and Shade's Children, The Dream of Perpetual Motion.

Movies: My guilty pleasure is Breakfast at Tiffany's, since I absolutely adore Audrey Hepburn. If I'm going to stick through a movie, it either needs deep and compelling characters or an interesting narration style. Examples: Silence of the Lambs and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. I'm not sure if it counts, but I used to dabble in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, as you can see from one of my photos.

Shows: There are a couple that I'll watch, mostly it's comedies these days since they're easy to pick up and watch (I'm going through Archer currently). As far as anime goes, I like things that are psychologically or artistically interesting. Examples: Death Note, Gankutsuou

Music: Oh my, where would I begin. I have an eclectic taste, not because I'm a music snob or a noncomforist, but because I just tend to like random stuff. I like some metal, but the lyrics have to be intelligible and clear. If it's just nonsensical grumbling, no thanks. On the flip side, there are some more low-key bands like that I enjoy as well. Basically, if it's got a good beat and smooth lyrics, there's a chance I can dig it. Examples: The Birthday Massacre, Splashdown, Edguy, Robbers on High Street

Food: I love spicy foods even though I'm not supposed to eat them often. If you make me (or better yet teach me how to make) any kind of curry or anything involving nutella, you will instantly win my heart a hundred times over.
The six things I could never do without
  1. Summer storms
  2. Scarves
  3. Dark chocolate
  4. The occasional good debate
  5. Unnecessarily large headphones
  6. Coffee. Or, more precisely, the smell of coffee.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What the Intarwebs will be like in another decade, where I left that pair of socks, and other such fine topics about the universe. I often find myself musing over small details in a plot I'm working on; it's not an uncommon occurrence for me to randomly pump my fist in the air once I've solved a plot hole.

I am absurdly excited for Transistor. If Supergiant does as superb of a job as they did with Bastion, I fully expect it to be nothing short of amazing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTik6sYT_BE
On a typical Friday night I am
Enjoying a new restaurant, riding around DC, spinning poi in a random park, or writing. I am not at all opposed to a casual night out with some friends, though I'm definitely not good with the crowded club scene. I prefer having an enjoyable evening with a few people I'm close to than wild parties with a ton of people I don't know. Plus I have moderately sensitive hearing so I don't like places that are unnecessarily loud.

I've taken a liking to going to this board game meetup in Crystal City; if you like board games too, you should go!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
It has recently dawned on me that I have a liking toward the least badass version of badass things. I'm hoping someone out there finds this remotely endearing.

* I own and ride a motorcycle; but it's actually a gorgeous red vespa. It's 300cc's and I had to get an M class license and it's considered a motorcycle by Virginia law so damned if I don't refer to it with the "m" word. I kind of love it even if it slightly reduces my street cred. Her name is Sw1tch.

* I have a tattoo; but it's actually just a symbol from this book I wrote. I like to think of it not as narcissism, but a constant reminder of something very important and close to me. I'm not the universe's gift to literature, but it's good to have something you're proud of eh? [I've been trying to teach myself to tell people it means "truth" in Swahili without cracking a smile. It's actually worked once!]

* I went to the US's largest gothic/industrial metal festival last year; but I was just going to see The Birthday Massacre (since I'm a helpless fanboy) and to laugh at all of the nonsensical grumblers. Industrial Santa Claus made my year.

* A sizable chunk of the scarves and hats that I wear were made for me by my mother. Yes, get on my level of badassery. (In case you were worrying; no I don't own a fedora)
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 21–27
  • Located anywhere
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
you love Arthur the weatherman at least half as much as I do. (That's still a lot, for the record)

you're passionate about something! And really, I mean anything! It's so refreshing to hear people talk about something that they're pursuing with all that they've got. That and it makes me feel a little less silly for wanting to do it myself.

you have a story to tell. It can be real or fiction, doesn't matter to me. Storytelling in all of its forms fascinates me, and I will take any chance I can to see how other people go about it.

you are or know of a talented artist/video producer/website designer with a penchant for fantasy themes who is looking for freelance work. I'm heavily considering self-publishing and I could use a little assistance with the marketing aspects. I'm not looking for charity, but business partners.

you want to play Netrunner. I recently got the core set and I've fallen in love with it. I kind of want to start a semi regular play group. :/

"In the bronze towers to the west, a mighty empire crumbles from within.
In the dark caverns to the east, the children of night plot against their kin.
In the fading forests to the north, the guardians of life can only watch and wait,
While in the hollow mountains to the south, a maddened goddess seals their fate.
And down in the center of the world, a long-forgotten secret lies;
Those who seek the Equinox are doomed just like their prize.
