My self-summary
Need to get to this as I think it over. Some things to start off with.

Don't really care for Arizona especially Phoenix area and Maricopa County that I basically loathe. Was living in Fullerton (Orange County) when the economy there fell apart in the early 90's. After living in Anaheim/Fullerton for 25 years made the mistake of moving to AZ for job hunting. Plan is to get out of here when I hope to retire in 2015. Would like to go back to California, hopefully somewere in the central coast area around San Luis Obispo. Have always liked that area, but a bit expensive so may have to expand the horizons some. Almost went to school at Cal Poly there, but went to Michigan State University right after high school for a couple of semesters. Didn't work out and made the move to SoCal and went to Cypress College and then got my BA from Cal State Fullerton. But I digress as I often do; have decided that Bakersfield, or somewhere in the central valley, is better then Phoenix; it resembles somewhat were I grew up in Oklahoma, but still fairly close to LA and the coast. Portland, OR is also on the list since what little time I've spend there I really like the place. If that doesn't work out, then Prescott or Flagstaff as last ditch alternatives. I guess an addendum to this would be that it seems like most of the high number matches in the search function are out of Arizona with a majority on the coasts, especially the West. Also many are younger (a lot sometimes and that make me feel sort of wierd) then me. So out of place and out of time; need to find my tribe and its area. --5-30-2014 Just signed the first paperwork for a house in Tulare. Still a bit over a year before retirement, but getting things moving. Its a rental at the present with the people in there through next April. Good they can help pay the mortgage until I'm can move.

Not what a lot of people would consider family orientated. I get along with most of mine ok, but not to close to any. But have been basically on my own and out of the house since I was 17. Except for the first year of college in the dorm and a year in the army were I had no choice was never much for roommates.

Radical non-smoker and cat lover. Have had long hair and some variation of facial hair most of the time since I got out of high school so do not see any changing now. Not into sports, except for car racing. Like nature, but am also into mechanical stuff, especially antiques - brass era cars, Golden Age aircraft, steel wheel tractors, old trucks. Go to a lot of shows and do a lot of photography at them: http://whulsey.smugmug.com maybe dangerous posting that but, oh well!

So where are we: tend to be off in my own subset of the universe. So if you have problems with stacks of models, piles of books and magazines and heaps of art materials; and need things (including people) to fit into some defined box probably not the person for you. Don't seem to be a lot of people's cup of tea--seem to be more hemlock then Earl Gray to them.

Some Favorite Quotes: "A definition of insanity is when something is wrong to keep doing the same thing over and over and expect different results.", "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger...but it can leave some nasty scars." , "I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on; I don't do these things to other people and I expect the same from them." A current favorite from Benjamin Franklin that seems really appropriate lately: “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” Then the old standby of "20 years of schooling and they put you on the dayshift." Thanks Mr. Dylan for summing up the shift from graphic design to transit bus driver. Look out kids!
What I’m doing with my life
Trying to get out of here alive, that's Arizona. Working at finding more time to read and do artwork. Just trying to get by and get myself into a position for retirement from present job and leave a light footprint on the earth.
I’m really good at
Dancing the light fandango! Always wanted to say that. Decent photographer, fair artist.
The first things people usually notice about me
Long hair (aging mainly unreformed hippie), short
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books:Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?; Naked Lunch; Way Station; Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch; Childhood's End; Nova Express; Charles Bukowski, Wanda Coleman, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Allen Ginsberg and Gary Soto poetry. Just might as well go any Phillip K. Dick, William Burroughs, Tom Robbins, Jack Kerouac, Robert Heinlein, David Brin, William Gibson, Octavia Butler, Harlan Ellison, Fredrick Pohl. Two extremely important works were Rachel Carson's Silent Spring and Thoreau's essay on Civil Disobedience.

Movies: Bladerunner; Solaris both versions; Zardoz; Fantasia; Allegro Non Tropo; Amelie; Akira; Magnificent Seven; Wallace and Gromit; Metropolis; Serenity; Fantastic Planet; Pan's Labyrinth; anything Stanley Kubrick, David Lynch, Terry Gilliam, Cohen Bros., David Cronenberg, Aardman Studios. Guilty pleasures are animation, big special effects, galaxies colliding, ray guns, and BEM's! Don't see much tv, but did like Firefly; the various Star Trek sequels and prequels; Andromeda was dumb fun; Titus was sort of wierdly trippy, did it even make a full season?

Music:Residents; Captain Beefheart; Frank Zappa; Sonic Youth; Neil Young and Crazy Horse; Phillip Glass; Lyle Lovett; Byrds; Fugs; Yardbirds, esp. Jeff Beck era plus his later solo stuff; HP Lovecraft (like the writer also); Henry Cow; John McLaughlin; Snakefinger; Renaldo and the Loaf; Nash the Slash; Thirteen Floor Elevators; Robert Fripp in all his incarnations; Buckethead; Fred Frith; Brian Eno; Leonard Cohen; Diamanda Galas; Gong; Van Morrison; Harry Partch; Tom Waits; Los Straightjackets; Americana Lyle Lovett, James McMurtry, Old 97s, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Wilco ; 1st gen Punk, 45 Grave, X, Pistols, Stiff Little Fingers, Social Distortion, Cramps, Pere Ubu, Dead Kennedys, Devo, Dammed; industrial, SPK, Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle, Butthole Surfers, Nurse With Wound, Z'ev; blues; various instrumental forms; and used to rarely miss a Dr. Demento show when he was live on KMET in LA. Not music, but listening to a lot of NPR that last couple of years; since there are not any really good indie stations (KWSS 93.9 is changing that some and 103.1 for more mainstream when you can pick it up) in Phoenix area. Listen to KPIG when I'm over in the SLO area. Listening to all kinds of things on the internet. Recently though about haven't heard any Steeleye Span in a long time and then that lead me into a bunch of stuff I hadn't heard in awhile if at all: Pentangle, Fairport Convention, Sandy Denney, Richard Thompson, Albion Band...great music. Also not really music, more performance art, Survival Research Labs. Was just listening to Purple Rain (Prince , if you don't know) and just realized I'd left out another whole chunk of music I like: early Motown; Stax Records; Ray Charles; Staple Singers; Sly and the Family Stone; Persuasions; Lee Dorsey; and many more!

Food: Greek; Mexican(prefer Cal/Jalisco style over Sonoran or Tex-Mex); Seafood; Italian; Chinese; Indian; Thai (even if I can't handle the hot like I used to); non-chain local hole-in-the-wall diners and family restaurants. Sucker for a pb (chunky, please) and j (especially pineapple-apricot or pear jam). Not a big steak and potato fan; Omnivore with heavy veggie leanings.

Favorite Places: Morro Bay-San Luis Obisipo]] (SLO as its called locally, Monterey-Carmel, Laguna Beach, Pt Reyes-Mendocino, Mt Graham, Prescott; Flagstaff; Portland, OR; Seattle-Tacoma area
The six things I could never do without
Let's assume the basics of life and physical existance and move on from there. Something to make marks with; something interesting to read; showers (let's just make that running hot and cold water); scale models to build; random moments of beauty; coffee almost is a basic; real attached to my cameras.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Getting out of Arizona and back to California. Surviving work until retirement; and is dealing with some of the people I do actually causing brain damage or just psychological and emotional trauma. Current projects I'm working on: paintings, drawing, models. Books.
On a typical Friday night I am
Wondering and wandering around; or at home editing photos, reading or working on a model.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Don't know how to swim. As a kid in Oklahoma and now an adult (sort of) in Arizona and most of the time when around my immediate family, tend to feel like I'd been abandoned by the mothership for some reason.
