When everything is said and done, I want to know that I lived my life passionately and true to my deepest potential—that I followed my heart, lived life honestly, and treated everyone I encountered with compassion and humility.
I’m an adventurous traveler always open to exploring new experiences and cultures. I spent two years living in Jerusalem, some time working for an NGO in Egypt, and have visited close to 20 countries. In 2009, I visited Vietnam and retraced the steps of my dad who served there during the war. I am fascinated by the diverse ways in which people live their lives around the planet.
My ultimate goal is to work in government at the elected level. I am aware of how difficult that is and that is a goal that must be approached with much humility, but it has been a quiet ambition of mine for many years, and it is a goal I take very seriously. I very much admire the former president of the Czech Republic Vaclav Havel who believed politics was a deeply moral pursuit that has been tainted by people who are in it for the wrong reasons.
I am a passionate supporter of breast cancer research, having lost someone near and dear to me at a very early age.
Although, I have a deeply serious and ambitious side, I also love to laugh. I can be quite goofy, irreverent, and sarcastic the more comfortable I am with someone. I thought the James Franco roast was hilarious. I very much enjoy doing dishes (no joke! I find the process cathartic) as well as intellectually stimulating conversation.
I am a voracious reader who loves writing (poetry if I am in the right mood), photography, collecting art, hiking, and watching Ted Talks and ice hockey--I'm nostalgic for the days when I used to get checked as a 9 year old playing left wing. I write in all my books and also include the date I read the book. For me, reading is an active dialogue with the author, and a form of journal writing.
Since graduating college in 2009, I have started two organizations: a small business that unfortunately failed after 8 months (taught me to appreciate the struggles small business owners go through) and a social innovation organization that I have grown over the last four years.
Some of my core values include: humility, introspection, integrity, tenacity, service, and kindness. I highly value self-awareness and believe that routine introspection is critical to leading a more fulfilling life. I am sensitive and deeply empathetic. I despise conceitedness.
I just started pursuing an MBA in sustainable business part time, which I will pursue full time in January. Sustainable business focuses on the triple bottom line: people, planet, profit. Sustainable business fascinates me because there is real potential for us to create a society where the lines between business and the non-profit sector considerably blur and where businesses compete to be the most ethical and sustainable companies—where the cheapest goods are also those least detrimental to our planet and its people.
I believe the best relationships are where two people facilitate each other’s deepest potential, and treat each other with genuine compassion. Based on experience, I know that I need to be with someone who values my goals in life, is nurturing and kind, is intellectually curious, and who feels that frequent sex is important to maintaining a long-term healthy relationship (I mention this because I know that people are wired differently and there is a spectrum). I believe that men and women should play equal roles in their relationships and I have always strived to go out of my way to make happy the women I have been lucky enough to call girlfriends in the past. If you are looking for a guy who will genuinely listen to you and let you talk without interruption, who agrees with every word in Lean In, who knows how to build furniture and fix things, who is deeply passionate about life, life-long learning, personal growth and making the world a better place, who will work out with you and send you handwritten poetry, and who will always strive to talk things through and make you happy, then feel free to message me.
