Where to begin?... I moved to Edmonton just recently (September),
having accepted a job offer here which enticed me away from
Vancouver, where I previously spent most of my life. Leaving the
coast was difficult, not only because of the natural beauty of the
place, but also because my hobbies (sailing, SCUBA diving,
mountaineering) are not ideally suited to a landlocked prairie
location. Nevertheless, I am determined to give my new home a fair
shot, and while the job is going well so far, I have no social
connections here, and have yet to establish any new friendships or
romantic interests.
I am an intensely introverted person, and do not often seek social interaction. Whether I am solitary by nature, or merely by habit, I have grown accustomed to living alone. My previous relationships have encompassed many forms, from brief flings to near-engagement, but as it stands I have not dated in about five years, nor have I actively pursued any such connection. Fierce independence, introspection, and perseverance led me to create a life for myself which was ostensibly whole; however, since my move, the voids in my life have made themselves obvious by the relative absence of distraction. In time, it is possible that I will find new activities, new friends, and new distractions to re-establish my life balance. It is also possible that as you read these words, you are embarking upon a journey which will have you come to fill that void.
