My self-summary
How to describe me..... Well, outwardly I'm nerdy, I am snarky, and I'm generally pretty fun. Inwardly, I'm burdened with a strong sense of empathy, and if I seem like I care about people, its because I really do. I am a strange juxtaposition of several stereotypes that fit together in such a way that makes me quite unique. You probably haven't ever met anybody quite like me. And if you ever do meet me, you'll probably agree with me. Did I mention I'm candid? Yep, pretty candid. What you see is what you get.

As I said I'm a big nerd. I like to talk about lots of nerdy stuff, philosophy, religion, economic theory. I'm also a political junky. I have my bachelor's in Political Science and History, and I love both subjects greatly. I read like crazy...well kind of anyway. A lot of the time I'm listening to audio books, which I argue counts just as much. I like that because I can be active while I do it. Going for a walk? Audio book! Riding my bike? Audio book! Driving my car? Audiobook! Well, you get the idea. And if you don't think they count, I'll have you know I also very much love my nook.

I like to keep an open mind on most things. My favorite quote was by Elbert Hubbard who said,"The recipe for perpetual ignorance is: be satisfied with your opinions and content with your knowledge." I try to live my life by that philosophy. This practice pertains to my intellectual endeavors, and to my relationships with people.

I have a bizarre love of bad jokes(groaners), absurdity, and cheesiness. I also have a serious side too that comes out when I open up to people. I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, I despise rumors and gossip, and I try my best to be fair with people I see everyday...) Like everybody, I have my shortcomings, but despite these I think I'm generally pretty likable and easy to get along with.

I am not religious(I'm agnostic actually), but I am something of a humanist. As such, my moral ideologies tend to be very compatible with a lot of religious folks. In fact some of my best friends are quite religious.

I love discussion. I have a fascination with understanding what makes people tick..What they believe, why they believe it. I'm very open with my opinions about religion and politics. But don't worry, I'm generally very accepting about what other people believe, and my favorite things to talk about aren't restricted to either of these taboo topics. :P
I should also warn, I tend to ask a lot of questions. Some people get annoyed at this practice, others seem to really appreciate it. If you happen to be somebody who enjoys your share of witty banter, I will likely enjoy your company.
What I’m doing with my life
Getting by while working on improving my life in any way I can.

After getting burnt out sending my resume to everyone and their mom in Lansing for political jobs, I'm starting to think I should have done an internship instead of going to China.... ah well, something will work out eventually, and until then, there's always trusty retail. I recently got a promotion of sorts, but I view it as more of a stepping stone than anything permanent.

Currently I'm exploring a couple avenues for a real person job that look to be quite promising. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Most recently took over a position as a liquor order writer. It came with a pay bump and it's created an opportunity to learn about booze, which has been pretty fun so far. I've also been making buddies with the wine vendors. It's pretty cool how much wine and liquor knowledge rubs off in this position.
I’m really good at
I had stuff written here at one point, but ya know what? I feel this topic does two things: One, makes me seem arrogant, which I am really not, and two, it cuts down on the intrigue. So if you want to know, hang out with me. You'll figure it out at some point and then you can tell me so I know what to write in here.

Oh, actually I thought of something. I'm reasonably good at fake Scottish Accents. Though I get shy if you ask me straight up to do it. Also, I'm pretty good at tangents. Not terribly proud of the second thing.
The first things people usually notice about me
I can't say for sure, but I imagine I surprise people with a genuine smile. I've also been told my face is quite expressive. That's all I got for you. Maybe if we meet at some point you can fill me in on your opinion?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I enjoy reading fiction and nonfiction(everything from Dean Koontz to Frank McCourt). I'm a HUGE Stephen King fan. Probably read like 20 something of his books, mostly because I fell in love with the Dark Tower series. Just finished a couple Patrick Rothfuss books that were fricken amazing. Robert Jordan was recently recommended to me by a friend so I've been dabbling in some Wheel of Time books. So far they are fantastic.

I love well-made movies. I don't care what type of movie it is. I liked the LOTR Trilogy, I loved "Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind"(Kate Winslet was extremely attractive in that movie), "Death To Smoochy", New Batman Movies, Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang. Doesn't matter...with effort any genre can impress me. Though sometimes bad movies can have a charm to them as well. Like, zombie movies. Sure they're cliche, but they're also FUN! Most recently I really enjoyed the Avengers, and all those Marvel movies. Also, Ted was hilarious. Oh, and I would strongly recommend Looper to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

I don't watch any "TV" typically(well, I watch the news channels..if you can count that), but I have really enjoyed watching Dexter, True Blood, Boston Legal(DENNY CRANE!), 30 Rock, Battlestar Galactica, and Scrubs on DVD/internetz. Also, huge Joss Whedon fan.

As far as food goes, for most of my life I've been notoriously picky, but in recent years I've expanded my pallet considerably. My favorite restaurant is still probably Blue Ginger Asian Kitchen. Their Sesame Chicken is amazing. Not terribly fond of Mexican food.
The six things I could never do without
First, martial arts. I've been studying under Sifu Lee downtown for about 10 years now and it has had a wonderful effect on my life. The style is called Tai Chi Praying Mantis Kung Fu. The last few years have been especially fun since I've started getting into the more advanced stuff. When I was younger I was a bit of a couch potato (HUGE couch potato actually). Since then I've seen the benefit of staying in good shape. Second, probably my I-pod. I use this thing for all sorts of stuff, music, podcasts, occasionally for solitaire. I don't have a lot of time to watch tv so I tend to get my news from podcasts I download every night before I go to bed (big fan of Rachel Maddow), plus audiobooks, as I mentioned earlier. Third, my Forester. I drive around too much to go without it. And despite the fact random people seem to really enjoy smashing into it when I'm not around (on the street, in parking lots, etc.) it still treats me well. Fourth, sleep. Because sleep is good. Don't think anyone will argue with that. Fifth, the internet. From facebook, to wikipedia, to daily podcasts, I use the internet every day and I feel lost without it. And finally, friends. I think everybody needs companionship on some level. I like my "me-time" as much as the next guy, but in the end I think it's important to have people to care about who care about you in return.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Keeping my eye on the ball. Just turned 30, still working retail. Trying hard not to be, but this economy is quite unforgiving. I keep hearing people saying things like "Bachelor's Degrees are the new High school diploma." Screw that. I guess there are a lot of people in my situation. I just wish I hadn't gone to school part time for so damned long. Ah well, it looks like I have some opportunities on the horizon, so I shouldn't be stuck in this financial rut for long.

I think a lot about the way our country is, the way the world is, the broad array of problems we have to face, and the roadblocks in our way to fixing them. Sometimes just stressing out about how fucked up things are. Honestly, I often have a lot on my mind, and if I were to list it all, it would take up more space than I have to work with here (not to mention, it'd be pretty time consuming...) so I think this'll do for now.
On a typical Friday night I am
Sometimes I'm working, other times I'm wondering what I should do with my newly found nights off. Recently I've escaped most night shifts and I'm still trying to remember how to have a social life again.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I came here because the quizzes were amusing.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 23–30
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
You have something interesting to say and feel like chatting. I really enjoy meeting cool, smart people. I get a lot out of it. And if you're a pretty girl with a lot of brains mixed with quirks and sass, you might make my day.

Side note, this idea of internet dating is mostly foreign to me, but I thought why the hell not since I don't find myself meeting a lot of new people in my daily life.
In terms of dating, I am open to meeting somebody awesome online, but I feel like expecting things to happen is like setting yourself up for failure right off the bat. I think romance has to be organic. So I guess I'm looking for friends more than anything. If that turns into something? Great! If not? Shrug. So yeah, if that's your goal and you feel like chatting, or if you just think I just sound interesting, send me a message. If nothing else you might get a pretty good conversation out of it.
