My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Do you know Snoopy - the dog from the Peanuts comic strips? If your answer is yes, you already understand a large part of who I am. I was type-cast as the furry little punk in my 6th grade class's performance of "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" and I still think the character captures my energy.

Once you become important to me, I am ferociously loyal and am not afraid to be tough with other people if it means making things right for you. On the other hand, I will never cease to rib you/play jokes on you. Sometimes we have to laugh at each other a little to laugh with each other. If you can dish it back out at me, so much the better.

I am out there - but I always know what's going on. I don't do or say typical things - but it's not because I don't understand the rules. It's because I understand the rules so intimately that I know how to get away with breaking them.

NOTE: I am in New York until June 16 before heading off to Tunisia for a nine month adventure so I think the chances of me eloping with anyone on this site before I leave are very slim. But am always down to meet new people.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
In a shocking turn of events for a male on OkCupid, I'm *not* a laid back dude.

Professionally, I'm a cultural translator. in my career, I travel to the Middle East and North Africa to learn about ways of thinking and the reasons behind those ways of thinking. I sit in smoky cafes with people who subscribe to a different ideologies and worldviews; I carefully try to understand their points of view by listening to what they have to say. Then, I write about it so people in my own country can understand. This work has allowed me to understand things like revolution and radicalism in intimate detail. I've had the privilege of seeing some of the best and worst of what the human experience offers and have made some life-long friends in the process.

My current platform for this work is as a Ph.D student in Political Science at Brown. Am about to head off to Tunisia for nine months. I have no rules but if you are absolutely in the "long term dating or bust" category, I'm probably not your guy - at least not this year.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Challenging your reality. Analyzing social situations. Distinguishing between different shades of colors that are only slightly off. Sniffing out bullshit. Empathizing with people. Giving advice. Understanding culture.

Going to clubs/bars/parties and studying the interactions of people in the same way that anthropologists study primitive tribes in remote areas of New Guinea.

You can challenge me a little. Sincerity and kindness is of course a prerequisite, but it's much more fun if we can exchange ideas. I have a very unique sense of humor - it will make things much easier if we're on the same wavelength there. Know who you are, own it - and I may fall for you. Even if I don't, I will respect you immensely.
