Hello. How are you?

Not quite sure what to write here, I don't particularly like talking about myself. Actually, that's not true. I love talking about myself - doesn't everyone? - but normally it takes me a while to warm up before I start wittering on in front of strangers.
Okay, what can I tell you about myself? My name is Sam, I'm recently 30 years old and am currently enjoying a lovely cup of tea. I work at the university as a postdoctoral research assistant, studying microbiology. I really don't like those adverts for probiotic yogurt drinks where they talk about "friendly bacteria," just because people keep asking me if I'm like the annoying nerdy scientist that's in them. And I don't think I am. Other than that I think it's fair to say I'm a laid-back and easy-going, if rather cynical, kind of guy.
I'm giving this place a go following a friends' suggestion, and because I thought it might be a fun, if slightly unorthodox, way to meet some new and exciting people. I guess more specifically it would be nice to meet someone to share both interesting and uninteresting conversations with. And why not?
