My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm an independent introvert who loves to socialize, go out to dinner, see live music, dance, cook, read, and spend as much time as possible outside. Kayaking and hiking are my favorite things to do outdoors. I'm open-minded and have a "live and let live" philosophy about life. I'm very sarcastic and love to laugh.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
A few years ago I decided that I couldn't take my desk job anymore so I decided to go to culinary school. I cooked at Woodberry Kitchen for a year before deciding that 70 hour work weeks are not for me. I'm back behind a desk and cooking fabulous meals for my friends instead of strangers.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I love to cook. It's my art form.

I'm a great listener, and good at holding lengthy philosophical conversations. I'm brutally honest and very loyal. I give great advice, but only when asked.

I read people very well and am always curious about what makes them tick. People with different ideas and beliefs are especially intriguing because I learn a lot about myself in talking to them and trying to understand where they're coming from.
The first things people usually notice about me

I'm pretty quiet until you get to know me, and I think that's why people think I'm shy. I'm actually very open about myself, I just like to observe people before I let them get to know me.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Favorite books: Ishmael, The Historian, One Hundred Years of Solitude, The Alchemist, The Lord of the Rings, The Golden Compass series, A Fine Balance, historical fiction, chef's biographies/memoirs, any series that can hook me

Movies: I prefer either stupid comedy or something that makes me think. No horror or thrillers for me. Favorites: anything Wes Anderson, Office Space, Shawshank Redemption, The Princess Bride, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, I Heart Huckabees, Into the Wild, The Grand Budapest Hotel.

TV: I don't watch much TV, and I hate reality shows, but I LOVE Game of Thrones and House of Cards if I had to pick my favorites. And I can never get enough of Friends - I've seen every episode at least three times.

Music: I love all kinds of music (with the exception of country and rap). I really love classic rock, folk, old-school hip-hop, indie. A few of my favorite bands/singers: Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Modest Mouse, Tool, Sublime, Fiona Apple, Blind Melon, Phish, A Tribe Called Quest, The National.

Food: Food is one of my favorite things. I love pasta, most ethnic food, especially Indian and Thai, seafood, salads. I like to eat fairly healthy and don't eat a lot of meat or fried foods, although I love a big steak once in a while (cooked rare, of course).
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I really do spend a lot of time thinking about where my life is going, what I want to get out of it, and how I can constantly learn more and continue to grow into a better, more compassionate person. Meditation is an important part of this for me.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Happy hour then the park with my dog.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
This is my first time ever on a dating site and it feels pretty strange to be filling out this profile.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You should message me if you have something interesting to say and can handle a confident and intelligent woman.

I'm really attracted by intelligence, a great sense of humor, open-mindedness and curiosity, honesty, intensity, and oh yeah - I love beards.

Turn-offs: arrogance, small-mindedness, poor spelling and grammar, a need to discuss politics.

Disclaimer: I don't like sports and you will never get me into them. But I enjoy the social aspects of sports and can go to games and cook awesome tailgating food. Just don't expect me to cheer or wear war paint ;)
