My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a single professional man, once-married, no kids. I'm tall and in shape.

Personality-wise, I'm sarcastic and can be cynical, but also care passionately about a variety of causes, and am fighting the good fight.

Walking around town with a friend, discovering and enjoying new things is my idea of a fine time. I have great friends, and am loyal.

I like laughing to the point of tears. If we crack each other up, that's perfect.

I've run six marathons. They hurt.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm a research analyst, and I write reports about renewable energy. I'm doing exactly the type of work I want, working from home. Life is good.

I love the contracting life. I have a nice amount of free time, so I go to all the Timbers home games, see a lot of art films and live comedy, and try to hit a pub quiz every now and then.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Listening. Coming up with fun stuff to do. Being affectionate. Giving space. Encouragement. Making things happen when it counts.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I am easy to follow through a crowd.

Nonfiction: Mary Roach (Gulp, Stiff, Bonk), Robert Glennon (Unquenchable: America's Water Crisis and What To Do About It), Jeff Wilson (The Manhattan Project of 2009: Energy Independence Now!). Samantha Bee.

Primer, The Good The Bad The Weird. Blade Runner, Primer, Amadeus, City of Lost Children, Brazil, All Coen Brothers, Gilliam, and Burton. Until The End of the World. District 9. In The Mood For Love/2046. Red/White/Blue. The Fall. The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Moon. Most Danny Boyle and Julie Taymor movies.

In fact, I'm probably rockin' out to VNV Nation *right now*. I love that there's a new generation of synthpop happening; it's a nice antidote to the blase rock god band of the week.

Newer: CHVRCHES, Galactic, Snarky Puppy

My favorite meal: sauteed peppers and onions, and fried plaintains, in Nicaragua.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Running shoes, coffee, newspapers (fine, news sites), The Marmot (my windbreaker), and a sense of humor. Five's fine for me.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Comedy, politics, the move away from fossil fuels, how to avoid stretching.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
There are no typical Friday nights, but I do love live music, comedy, and movies. Sometimes I have to go to sleep early to be up for a Saturday run. Other times I enjoy hitting the occasional dive bar or finding some decent fun theater.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I haven't owned a car since 2000. I've lived in cities with decent mass transit, and I work from home, in walkable neighborhoods close to grocery stores and the like. I have ZipCar and Car2Go (and cabs) when needed. I save anywhere from $4K-$10K/year by not owning a car, depending on how much I use those services. It helps me not be a cheapskate when dating. All good.
