I've had near-psychic relationships with cats, while my favorite non-domesticated critters are sea turtles and penguins, possibly because they're both so docile. I've come 30 feet from a large grizzly in Glacier National Park. It was sitting on a hillside, in a patch of berries. Aware but not particularly concerned with my presence, it left a large deposit on the trail, then ambled off, suave as you please.
When young, I suffered from a near-debilitating shyness, especially around women.
I grew up in a house without music or books, my mother doing her best to be grammatically correct, my father communicating his politically incorrect views with scowls, grunts and hand signals. As a result, I've always envied those whose rich vocabularies were gotten from their literate parents without the least bit of effort. (And, yes, I'm one of the few keeping alive the distinction between envy and jealousy.)
I enjoy photography and music-making, good conversation, laughter, love-making, beer. I've made one short film, and am working hard on a longer, more ambitious project. That's where my passion lies.
Books: Lots of non-fiction lately, mostly about films and film-making, but hiking guides, too. (I've spent the last 3 months in Boulder, CO, where you can go from 100 degree temps to hiking amid snow-field and glacial lakes in less than an hour!)
For fiction, I'm a sucker for a good stylist, and am not afraid to be challenged. Thought and laughter are a great combination.
