My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hi I'm Jake.

Anyway I'm sort of just "here looking"
I wouldn't mind talking to some people, but I really don't think I'll have a whole lot of free time, so I need to plan in advance in order to make the most of the free time I have.
If that doesn't work for you, than I guess you might want to go find someone who lives a lifestyle different than mine.

I'm all of the following things:
Teacher, music enthusiast, sarcastic bastard, goofball, student, dreamer, traveler, skater, writer, Philly sports fan, amateur Philadelphia tour guide, and overall good dude.

I can play a few instruments but I'm not an expert at any.

I am pretty good at bass.
I can fake my way on playing guitar.
I am learning harmonica, churango, and tin whistle.

I like writing, but I am awful at spelling.
Yet I'm really good at proofreading.

I like outdoor activities especially during the warm weather months, camping, hiking, swimming, boating walking in parks, or just sitting in the sun.

I am over 30 years old and the following things still bring a smile to my face:
-riding a bike
-traveling by train

I'm not sure what I'm doing here on an online dating website, guess just attempting to find a way to meet someone new and have some fun.

For the time being, I live just outside Philly in Bensalem, I want to move into Delaware County in the near future though, because my commute to work and school right now is brutal.

As far as why I am here seeking connection on the interwebs, it would be nice to start a relationship, but I'd be just as happy to meet some new friends.

Actually, it'd be really nice to meet some new friends.
I feel like all my friends seem to be getting married and having kids.

While I love all my old friends, I'm kind of getting tired with spending my Saturday nights on somebody's couch having a pizza while we watch their toddler play...

I'm cool with that too, but I want to go out!

So who is out there?
Want to come hang?
Lets go to a concert, a museum, a sport event,
We can hike in a park, skate through the city, drive off somewhere aimlessly and explore and then use GPS to find our way home...

I am not sure I believe in the whole "white picket fence" "American Dream" deal. I'm living life as much as I can, and I can't tell you if I will ever "settle down."

I am not looking for a Cinderella, I am sure as hell no prince.
But I'm living my life for all I can make of it, and it might be nice to have a "partner in crime" to share the times with.

I am not a fan of cold weather or the winter.
However, I think I'd like to try snowboarding .
Do you know how to snowboard?
Want to teach me?

I like to travel but I haven't done it enough.

I like whiskey, rum, and beer.
But I also like iced tea, fruit punch and coca-cola.

My favorite cities on the planet are:
Philadelphia, PA
Otavalo, Ecuador
and Negril, Jamaica.

I haven't spent as much time in Negril, or Otavalo as I have in Philly, but they are the only other places that feel like home.

I like people who have hobbies. I don't have to be interested in that hobby, but I take interest in seeing what others are interested in.

I've got a ton of hobbies, some more geeky than others.

Speaking of geeky...
I tend to like geeky things that remind me of growing up.
Skateboards, comic books, horror movies, old retro songs, old games, zombies.

People tell me I'm funny.
I don't try to be, but if somebody thinks I am I'll take the compliment.

I'm incredibly sarcastic.
If you like sarcasm, you'll probably be someone I can share a lot of laughs with.
If you don't like sarcasm, you might not be my biggest fan.
Let's leave it at that.

I'm pretty sure my outlook on life, the world, and encounters with other people all stem from an amazing quote I heard in the movie BILL & TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE as a kid,
"Be excellent to each other, and party on dudes."

Oh yeah, I call everyone dude, I'll probably call you dude at some point. Hope you don't mind. If so, sorry dude.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm a teacher.

I teach the kids that fell through the cracks.
I teach the students, that perhaps haven't had the easiest time growing up.
I'm a Special Education-Emotional Support/ middle school student in facility for students with mental health/behavioral health issues.
I won't lie to you and tell you it's easy. Its not. Every day is a stress filled challenge, but I feel like what I'm doing means something.
Everyone should have the opportunity to feel like that about their job. I love what I do.

I'm also in grad school at Temple University.
I'm three courses away from earning my Masters Degree in Education.

Life is busy.

In the free hours I have, I try and fit sleeping in, however I do have some activities I do to relieve stress and enjoy myself.

I just joined a gym, and I'm getting back into living a healthier lifestyle.

When I can I like to play music, or play hockey, ride a skateboard, hike through the woods, go camping, see a movie or art exhibit, take road trips, go see a play, go to sporting events, or and see live music.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Translating compositions written in poor English to something that makes sense. That's not really a talent though, I'm a teacher its sort of my job.

People tell me I'm a good listener, and that I can somehow stay calm in almost any situation..

Okay something I'm really good at.... Tetris, yes that old puzzle game for the original Nintendo. That was my favorite. I rule at that.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I can talk about anything, but I won't generally start the conversation.

I'm really calm most of the time..
I probably look like I'm thinking really hard, but the chances are I'm just singing whatever song is stuck in my head.

Physically I guess the first thing people notice is when I let it grow out I have a really curly blonde fro that forms on top of my head, that alway appears out of control. If you see it you will probably think I either just woke up or appear to be insane.

I'm telling you though I'm awake and quite sane, I just have a crazy head of hair.

I once had a stranger on a Septa bus approach me and tell me I have very unique eyes.
That was kind of fun, but it also creeped me out a little.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
This is the section where my inner nerdness comes out.
I have such a collection of music, books, and movies.
I have more than I'll ever be able to listen to, read, or watch.
I've always got something else I want to watch, listen to, or read.
There just is never enough time to get all that information/art/entertainment in...

I like to read, but right now between life and school I don't have much extra time to get into a book, so it's mostly websites and magazines. My favorite magazines are Rolling Stone, and The Big Takeover, I have subscribed to both since I was a teenager.
Reddit, and Stumbleupon are my two favorite websites both which I go and check at least daily.

When I do have time for books..My favorite authors are William S. Burroughs and Kurt Vonnegut. I'm partial to the Beat Generation writers.
Topic wise I read civil rights era history, biographies, music history, punk rock literature, the beat generation, mob / mafia tales, American folklore, and classic fiction most.
Some favorites:

"Junkie," by William S. Burroughs
"Mexico City Blues,"by Jack Kerouac
"One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" by Ken Kesey
"God Bless You, Dr. Kevorkian," by Kurt Vonnegut
"The Catcher In The Rye," by J.D. Salinger
"Get In The Van" by Henry Rollins

I'm kinda a movie geek.
I like horror, comedies, comic book films, dramas, action movies, thrillers, cult, foreign, indie, documentary, geeky music films... a little of everything.
In the spirit of the movie that I would have ranked #11 and didn't quite make the list (Hi-Fidelity) here are my Top Ten Favorite Movies.

1. The Goonies
2. Fight Club
3. Run Lola Run
4. O Brother Where Art Thou?
5. The People Under The Stairs

I like music that brings out emotions, whether it's anger, hopefulness, happiness, concern, gloom or doom.

I listen to a bit of everything:
I like dirty music with a groove and a message.
Music should stir up emotions, make you laugh, make you cry, make you angry, or make you at ease.

Food: I'll try anything, though I'm not big on things that are very spicy. I like seafood. Vegetarian food is usually good, but so are BBQ ribs. Japanese is probably my favorite.
Oh my one odd thing, I rarely eat dairy products.
So pizza is out unless you know a place that uses fake cheese.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1. Friends & family
2. music, art, books.
3. Pilot G2 pens
4. technology (computer, phone, ipad, etc.)
5. GPS
6. Philadelphia
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
-The future.
- What I want to do next.
- my career.
- Did people take pictures of themselves in bathroom mirrors before social networking sites existed?
-My students.
- What the hell makes people want to listen to Nickelback?
- Why is Philly's subway system so lame compared to other cities?
- Where the hell did I put my cell phone?
- How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Sometimes out at a bar on Girard Ave with some friends, eating a burger, drinking a beer, watching a band, and hanging out.

Sometimes rocking out at a show at a place like The TLA, KungFuNecktie, The Trocadero, or Union Transfer.

Sometimes sitting on a couch at a friends house watching a Flyers Phillies 76ers, Temple Owls, or other sports game.

And sometimes at home relaxing, cooking dinner, and watching a good movie..

Anything goes really, it depends what mood I'm in.

Worst case scenario, I'm sitting at the bar of a Big Heads out in the burbs, but hey at least it gets me out of the house.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I once went to a palm reader and was told I have no lifeline.
When I told this to my Dad he told me it's because I stopped breathing as an infant and wasn't supposed to live.
