My name is Jake.
So about me.
I'm a few years in to a career switch, I am a Special Education/ESL teacher, and coordinator of the stage crew and a/v team for the theater department middle school age students. I love what I do.
I am in grad school and inching my way ever so much closer to finally earning a Master's Degree at Temple U. (I'm hoping to be done by the end of 2015.)
I can quote the following movies word for word:
Ghostbusters, The Breakfast Club, Goonies, Fight Club, and Pee Wee's Big Adventure.
I love music, the outdoors, humor, Philadelphia, Philly Sports (but mostly Flyers hockey, and Phillies baseball), comics, horror and comedy movies, and traveling.
I can be a bit of a sarcastic bastard at times.
If you like sarcasm, you might find it funny.
If you don't like sarcasm, you might think I'm kind of a dick.
I'm okay with either. I like being me.
I the past I have worked as the following: radio DJ, music promoter, sound guy, and Philly tour guide.
I still love my music, but now its a hobby.
I still love touring people around my favorite city, but now I just do it for out of town friends and family.
Sometimes it's better to keep hobbies as hobbies.
Things that I enjoy include: craft beer, good whiskey, trips to the beach or mountains, exploring new places, record and book stores, music festivals, comedy shows, hiking trails, art galleries, old video games (i.e. Atari, Genesis, Nintendo games), and museums.
I'm a bit of a leftist, politically.
I've been called a "socialist," by family members.
I don't really enjoy political talk though.
So if you agree with me, fantastic.
If not, that's cool too, you do your thing, I'll do mine, and we can keep sharing this world and making the best of it.
However, if you are the religious type or extremely conservative in your views, we can be friends, but being anything closer than that would probably be insanely difficult.
I am over 35 years old and the following things still bring a smile to my face:
- longboard skateboarding
-riding a bike
-traveling by train
- Comic and Horror conventions
I'm pretty sure my outlook on life, the world, and encounters with other people all stem from an amazing quote I heard in the movie BILL & TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE as a kid,
"Be excellent to each other, and party on dudes."
