I moved out to Los Angeles from Colorado back '02 and I'm still
amazed by the number of new things I can come across every day
around here. I'm not the "typical LA guy", but I would also never
really think to categorize myself as a typical anything, let alone
a typical guy.
I'm a military brat, so I've had the chance to live all over the
world and do a good deal of traveling. I have a degree in Business
and a degree in Journalism, but I am most content performing
improv up on stage
with my friends.
I know it sounds dorky, but my life goal is to be a Renaissance
Man...so that means learn as much as I can and try as many things
as I can while I'm at it. So, I have a long list of things I want
to learn how to do, and I am constantly trying to get at
them!
Most recently I started taking salsa lessons (not sure how in the
world I'm supposed to remember half of these moves when I am
actually out on a dance floor), and I just got my M1 license...as
in motorcycle license. And...as an update to my profile here...I
just bought a new motorcycle and have been riding around practicing
not stalling when going from idle into first...especially when
sitting in a left turn lane at a major intersection...with a bunch
of cars waiting to go behind me...not that that has happened or
anything...that was a hypothetical scenario.
improv! And proud of it. steveimprov.com Oh, and I am pretty good
at
cooking as
well....and flying a kite....and sweeping....I'm also pretty
amazing at
one-hand-clapping.
I look like John Cusack.
Books: (authors really) Stephen King, David Sedaris, Douglas Adams,
Really eclectic taste though (currently reading American Lion: The
Andrew Jackson story). I realized the best way to explain my
eclectic taste is to list some of the most recent books I enjoyed:
Water For Elephants. Life of Pi, Just After Sunset, The Giver, The
Last Lecture
For music I have a pretty eclectic taste...I listen to pretty much
everything except heavy metal. Country can get a bit repetitive for
me as well. Once again...the last couple of bands I just listened
to on my iTunes list: Billie Holiday, Common, Mozart, the
Decemberists, MGMT,
Sara Bareilles...
For food....I like it. I like to cook it and I like to eat it. I'm
an omnivore, so I don't have gag reflexes to greens like some I
know, but I also enjoy a good steak.
For movies, my list is too long. I'm one of those who hates the
question "What's your favorite movie?" I don't have a
favorite...but that doesn't mean I don't have an opinion. :-) I
happen to teach
editing...so I definitely have an
opinion. I do happen to like many of the films written/directed by
Jean-Pierre Jeunet (as in Amelie, City of Lost Children,
Delicatessen), Galaxy Quest, Gattaca, Sabrina (the newer
one...sorry), His Girl Friday (this is a MUST see! So good!)
At home either watching a movie, surfing the web, writing, or
performing improv. It really depends who I'm hanging out with or if
I have work in the morning.
I love spell check...and need it.
Any of these things ring true. Or you just want to say hi.
