I am clever, snarky, and creative.

My Self-Summary

I once insulted Christopher Lloyd's wife, stole Johnny Cash's boot, and fell off of a three-foot high stage. In one day. When I was nine.

I was born and raised in the Florida Keys, went to school in Orlando to become an animator. Funny story there, though--turns out I'm terrible at it. So I ended up stumbling into game design and moved out here to Orange County in 2005 and never looked back.

I'm trying to get out and explore southern California more. I've lived here almost four years now, and while I know a few cool places to hang out and the like, I feel like I don't really know the area. Anyone want to explore it with me?

What I’m doing with my life

Well, in the sense of "what keeps me from starving in the street," I'm designing video games. I also do freelance writing in my spare time and am perpetually juggling any number of creative writing projects at varying levels of doneness. In the sense of "how am I enjoying my life," you'll often find me hanging out with friends, generally nerding it up, but just as often relaxing at home with a good book, movie, or video game--which I tell myself isn't really wasting time because it's "job research."

I’m really good at

Writing, cooking, wry sarcasm, the occasional bit of mixology, funny accents, random trivia, saying shockingly inappropriate things for maximum comedy value--that sort of thing. I've become something of a beer nerd over the last couple of years, and would dearly love to expand my palate to wine, so that when I cook something nice I know what to pair it with.

The first things people usually notice about me

I've been complimented on my eyes and my voice before (not my singing voice, though. Trust me, don't ask). And people seem to find my sense of humor pretty entertaining at parties.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

(a) I've fallen woefully behind on reading lately, but: David Simon, Michael Pollan, Christopher Moore, John Irving, Anthony Bourdain, and Orson Scott Card all rock. My favorite novel of all time is probably Watership Down. I also read comic books (Brian K. Vaughan, Grant Morrison, Warren Ellis, and Neil Gaiman are some of my favorites) and some genre stuff. I maintain a permanent soft spot for hard-boiled and pulp fiction from the likes of Raymond Chandler and Robert E. Howard, too.

(b) Casablanca is my favorite movie, with The Court Jester a close second. Other tops include Lost in Translation, There Will Be Blood, anything Pixar has ever done or will ever do, Mel Brooks movies up to Robin Hood: Men In Tights, and probably a dozen more I'll remember in ten minutes. I'm very eclectic in my movie tastes. Anything and everything from art cinema to dick-joke movies can find itself spinning in my DVD player.

(c) Too many artists to list, but my favorite genres are classic rock, jazz, blues, folk (especially Irish), and the oldies. Leonard Cohen tops my list of favorites, but I'm also quite fond of the Beatles, Alabama 3, the Red Elvises, Gaelic Storm, Johnny Cash, Omar and the Howlers, and a ton of others.

(d) Italian, Mexican, sushi, assorted Asian cuisine, steaks, home cooking, barbecue. I like a lot of different kinds of food.

The six things I could never do without

1) My dog 2) The internet (let's be realistic here) 3) Something to read 4) Something to write 5) A comfortable bed 6) Crack

Okay, that last one was just to make sure you were paying attention. Drugs are bad, mm'kay?

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Things that have no bearing at all on the real world.

On a typical Friday night I am

More often than not relaxing at home, recovering from the week, maybe cooking something delicious and drinking a nice beer. Sometimes out with friends at a movie. I'm not really a bar/club guy, but I'd like to find a nice, relaxed place to hang out and socialize with people.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

A plate of rotini nearly killed me once. You'll have to ask for the whole story.

You should message me if

You have a thing for short, skinny guys. If the fact that I use words like "snarky" and "pshaw" impresses you.
