My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hi I'm Matt, I am a pretty strange cookie, but if you give me a chance I might just be what you are looking for.

I like to knit in coffee shops, And sing walking in the street. I read a lot of science fiction and fantasy and blog about it. I teach kids to sing, and perform with my super hero crime fighting/singing group slaphappy (comedic acappella). It will make me sad if I can't make you laugh, and I will absolutely attempt to sweep you off your feet.

I like to dance, especially tango, and play soccer and frisbee. I'd really like to become more active and get back into hiking and playing more sports. I have a strong passion for telling really bad jokes, and I really like reading bedtime stories.

I do currently live on South Whidbey Island, which is about 30 minutes and a fifteen minutes ferry from downtown Seattle. I do not mind driving into the city at all, and am saving to move into the city as soon as I find a new job, so don't let that dissuade you.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I would like to be able to tell you I spend my time taming dragons, but that wouldn't be true. I work at a bookstore, teach voice lessons to middle schoolers, and music direct at the whidbey children's theater. It's not glamorous, but it allows me to do the things I want to do. Which is to write music. I am currently the Staff Composer at the Island Shakespeare Festival, and am working on my first Opera, which I'm hoping to workshop this summer. I'm working my way towards a Masters in composing music for visual media. I want to write sidewalk musicals and interesting electronic ballets.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Making my students comfortable in uncomfortable situations. Laughing to the point right before I pee myself and then controlling it. Knitting very evenly. Solving problems. And growing a really great looking beard.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
That I am very direct and very honest, that I have very expressive eyebrows, that I'm absolutely ridiculous, and I don't often stop singing, whether it's inside my head or out.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Food: I really like sea food, and pepperoni, and waffles. I really like waffles. As in: There is everything, and then above that is waffles. I'm not a very experienced cook, but it's something I've been working on a lot lately. I bought a great cook book and am working my way though trying to cook new things.

Music: I don't listen to a lot of Classical right now, but I am rather fond of it. Anything with broad sweeping melodies really. I'm really into Ben Folds, Goat Rodeo, Snarky Puppy, and The Shins.
However, I should probably mention that I listen to a lot of A cappella music. My friends are usually very impressed when the six disc changer in my car has a non-acappella album.

Shows: I haven't made a lot of time for tv lately; but my favorite shows include: Shield, The Newsroom, Psych, The League, and Smash.

Movies: My favorite movies are Pitch Perfect, Tangled, and Secondhand Lions. I really like Romantic Comedies, Ancient Chinese War movies, and really anything that isn't scary or overly gory that I can cuddle with you and watch.

Books: I read nearly constantly, as in usually a book a week.
My main genre is sci-fi fantasy, but I recently have been reading nonfiction mostly about habits and psychology. My favorite authors are: William Gibson, Patrick Rothfuss, Michael J. Sullivan, and Scott Lynch.

My newest favorites are:
Ancillary Justice
Station Eleven
The Power Of Habit
The Tower Lord
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1. Making people smile 2. Mouth drumming 3. Belief in Unicorns 4. The Internetz 5. Paper Books 6. Really really bad jokes.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How to be more tactful.
How to accept myself as well as others, and deal how to deal with my emotions in a productive way.
How create more productive habits.
What program could I teach to benefit the youth in my community.
Practicing piano.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Warming up kids for our musical performance that night, then going to the bar to relax and get a drink. Also probably wishing I was going to sing some Karaoke, you can't help but swoon when you hear me singing Vanessa Carlton. When I fail to make plans I'm usually reading in bed or playing my mandolin
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I once told a joke with carrots in my ears in public on a first date.

Sometimes I watch The Lion King and cry when Mufasa dies.

I'm looking for someone that wouldn't mind dancing with me in the street. Who will sit and watch the sunrise with me promptly followed by an hour of complaining how fucking early it is, and who doesn't mind a walk in the woods without intention of getting anywhere.

If you are not a fan of romance, you might want to find someone else. I will probably take you on obnoxiously cute dates, make you sweet gifts with my hands, and write you music pretending I belong in Big Fish. Just warning you, I'm awesome.

Thank you for taking the time to read to the bottom. This whole trying to find someone compatible, getting the timing right, and dealing with your own life thing is nonsense. I wish you luck if I'm not your style.
