My Self-Summary

Hi, I'm Steve. Allow me to self-summarize:

Just moved up to Nashville last year after living in Murfreesboro for eight years and I want to explore the city, which I am enjoying more and more, and meet new people, which I am doing more and more.

I have a dog named Toby who's been my best friend for the last nine years.

I just want to enjoy life and experience new things with good friend(s) and loved one(s).

Quick disclaimer: I grew up in Huntsville, Alabama before relocating to the Middle Tennessee area for college and beyond... that being said, I don't come off as a terribly "Southern" person. This is probably because my parents are both from Connecticut and Huntsville is not the most Alabama-ist of cities. Don't get me wrong, I love the South; I'm the last one in my family still here and, while I don't know that I'll remain here the rest of my life, I have no qualms about living here right now. Just realize that I have very little accent, I don't enjoy mainstream country, and I have extremely dry humor.

What I’m doing with my life

I work for a great company in Nashville and I spend my days dealing with accountants even though I myself have never even taken an accounting class. There's a bright future in my work I suppose, but one of these days I really need to get around to finishing my degree.

In my free time I enjoy playing guitar & bass, reading a good book, being in good company, watching a good movie, going somewhere new, drinking some good coffee, doing something new, having a good beer, getting back into disc-golf, watching a good football game in general, and well... anything good and/or new. I've been going to the gym a lot more and while I'm not sure that goes on the "enjoy" list I don't hate it. I need to get back into outdoorsy things I did when I was younger like hiking and backpacking, I really do miss it.

Oh yeah, my best friend and I just got our plates on the wall (well, the ceiling actually) at the Flying Saucer! 200 different beers in just under a year!

I’m really good at

Adding levity to most situations, kicking ass at old school NES Super Mario 3, and, though I wouldn't say I'm necessarily REALLY good at it, but I play guitar and bass.

I am fairly humorous and, while plenty of my humor is good ol' fashioned silliness, a lot of it is dry humor... and it's not for everybody.

The first things people usually notice about me

I really have no idea how to answer this one, I've never asked anyone what they first noticed about me. A friend once told me that I make those around me feel comfortable... I guess that's something, right?

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Some of my favorite...

BOOKS: The Dune chronicles by Frank Herbert. Lord Of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkein, The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk, Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess, World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks, and pretty much anything by Stephen King, Michael Crichton, Chuck Klosterman, or Sarah Vowell. Currently I've been sucked into King's Dark Tower series; in the middle of book five right now.

FILMS: 28 Days Later, Akira, Any Given Sunday, Batman Begins, Big Fish, The Big Lebowski, Boondock Saints, The Bourne Identity, Supremacy, & Ultimatum, Cloverfield, Crash, The Dark Knight, The Departed, Die Hard, Donnie Darko, The Empire Strikes Back, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Fargo, The Fifth Element, Fight Club, The Godfather I, II, III (yes, all three), Good Will Hunting, The Hunt For Red October, Jaws, Kingdom of Heaven, Knocked Up, L.A. Confidential, Lord of the Rings, Lost in Translation, Love Actually, The Matrix, Monsters Inc., Moulin Rouge, Mystic River, No Country For Old Men, Ocean's Eleven, Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?, Primer, Return of the Jedi, Romeo + Juliet, Ronin, Saving Private Ryan, Se7en, Sideways, The Sixth Sense, Smart People, Spirited Away, Star Wars, Stranger than Fiction, Sunshine, Transformers, Tremors, Unbreakable, The Untouchables, The Usual Suspects, V for Vendetta, Watchman, and many, many more...

MUSICIANS/BANDS: Alice in Chains, The Beatles, Beck, Björk, Blur, Cake, Johnny Cash, Coldplay, Dave Matthews Band, Danger Mouse, Feist, Filter, Peter Gabriel, Garbage, Gnarls Barkley, Harvey Danger, Colin Hay, Helmet, Hum, Iron & Wine, Jane's Addiction, Jawbox, Jay-Z, Kara's Flowers, Led Zeppelin, Madonna, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Outkast, Pearl Jam, The Pink Floyd, The Pixies, The Postal Service, Queens Of The Stone Age, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, The Rolling Stones, Rush, The Shins, Smashing Pumpkins, Soul Coughing, Soundgarden, Sublime, Third Eye Blind, Toadies, Weezer, Jenny Owen Youngs, and, of course, U2.

FOOD: I'm pretty adventurous and like to try new things. I really enjoy German food, but it's a little hard to come by around here. Seafood too, but it's ever as good as it is up in the Northeast. And, of course, Mexican, Italian, and Asian food are always great. Spicy is always a plus, too!

TV SHOWS: I don't watch a while lot of TV shows regularly, but I do enjoy Scrubs, House M.D., Classic Albums, Dirty Jobs, Family Guy, Futurama, Inside the Actor's Studio, Talk Soup, Venture Bros... I'm also a sucker for any type of biography or countdown show, and anything on G4 or Spike involving Japanese people getting hurt on obstacle courses.

*I tried doing the brackets thing around stuff on here and found I was putting them around almost everything... so if something is listed, it's probably something that interests/excites me. The alphabetical order on films and music also goes to show I have a slightly anal-retentive side...

The six things I could never do without

In no particular order:
-Companionship (friends, family & my dog)
-The Arts (all mediums)
-Good Beverages (coffee & beer)
-New Experiences (the free or inexpensive ones especially)
-Good Conversation (though I can appreciate good silences)
-Laughter (laughter)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

What I should do next, but I suppose that's normal for those my age.

On a typical Friday night I am

Hopefully with friends doing something fun. Ever since I got a full-time, day job I've learned to really appreciate my weekends and try to enjoy them. That being said, I like getting crazy just as much as I like chilling.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I really hate gum. I mean, I've made my peace with others chewing it but please - mouth closed!

You should message me if

You think we'd have fun together. I'm not necessarily looking just for dates and what not, I'd just like to find some more new friends in the area. If anything happens beyond that, bonus.

By the way, I have no idea why the questions listed below are the "questions I care about" or how I'm "more this" or "less that" and what not. I didn't chose any of those and I'm not sure how this thing arrives at those conclusions. Oh well, c'est la vie.
