My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I poke around the world, looking for new, and old in new ways. I want to understand. I write. I play. I'm enthusiastic. I read a lot. I spend a lot of time taking pictures of buildings, because I want to write stories about what happens in them.

I was overexposed to whimsy as a child. I am old for my age. I try to jettison my academic objectivity whenever possible and be in the moment. (I don't always succeed.)
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I write. I'm not going to say anything about my day job. We put too much emphasis on such things, and revolution begins at home. I love going out to shows and movies, walking around the city, sitting with a notebook in the park on a nice day. I walk around with a book and read a page or two waiting for the light to change. Creating in the world. Making music, listening to music. If I'm not singing in the shower, it's going to be a rough day. I'm a fiber artist with a spinning wheel and a passion for color, and if you aren't at least a little bit charmed by that, keep clicking. I make things. All kinds of things.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Cooking, watching, anything with words. I play the piano and the guitar, and speak geek fluently. I love trying new recipes and finding new books to read.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Mostly my smile. Sometimes my earrings. Occasionally the book I'm reading.

Authors: Robert Alter, Jane Austen, Dave Barry, Bill Bryson, Lincoln Child, Gail Collins, Justin Cronin, Charles Dickens, George Eliot, Michel Faber, Anne Fadiman, Neil Gaiman, Laurie R. King, Stephen King, John Le Carre, Hilary Mantel, Robert McCammon, Seanan McGuire, B.R. Myers, Douglas Preston, Dorothy Sayers, Lemony Snicket, Neal Stephenson, J.R.R. Tolkien, David Weber, Wil Wheaton, Qiu Xialong, Timothy Zahn.

Movies: Pretty much anything with aliens and/or explosions. I'm fairly picky within that genre, and I like other kinds of movies as well, but that's the place to start. I like being entertained. I find deep meaning in superhero stories.

Shows: West Wing, Sports Night, Firefly, Nero Wolfe. (I mostly watch my television on DVD.)

Music: Most things acoustic. Bob Dylan, The Wailing Jennys, Joan Baez, Arlo Guthrie, Fruit, Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, Sting, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Weird Al, Vienna Teng, Simon & Garfunkel. Stephen Sondheim. Quote me some Sondheim, and with maybe two show's-worth of exceptions, I'll start singing. Go ahead. Try it.

Food: I love cooking almost anything. Eating out, I like going for Chinese noodle soup, pad thai, sushi. It seems I like Asian food! (And it's easiest for me to eat out that way.)
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Six things... books, notebooks, good ingredients, interesting conversations, soft sheets, and laughing.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Literature. The ways people interact. The ways people interact in literature. I think about the world around me and the worlds within me. It's an occupational hazard.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Maybe I'm going to a new movie, or dancing around my kitchen making dinner, or out with a friend having dinner and joking around. Maybe I'm curled up on the couch with a book, or painting my toenails, or writing an impassioned screed about something. Or writing a happy ending. No matter what, on typical Friday nights I know I'm excited to stay up late because it's Friday! (We are simple creatures.)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I still have nightmares.
