What I’m doing with my life
I'm a California native who just relocated to Baltimore for an academic position. When I'm not reading or teaching Victorian literature I'm probably enjoying hikes, bikes, cats, talking politics, or urban adventures. I'm looking for friends with whom to explore this new city.
I’m really good at
Contesting the finer points of nineteenth-century intellectual history; occasionally wearing leather; doing my Kermit impression (if you ask nicely).
The first things people usually notice about me
Too much hair -- even when it's short.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Victorian literature is work, but also pleasure: Walter Pater, George Eliot, Oscar Wilde, Richard Burton, Robert Browning, John Stuart Mill, Arthur Conan Doyle. Among the commentariat: Wendy Brown, Talal Asad, Saba Mahmood, Raymond Williams.

Music: Miles Davis, Brian Eno, McCoy Tyner, Justice, the Velvet Underground, Wax Doctor, John Fahey, the Go-Betweens, Them, Beck, Herbie Hancock.

My taste in movies is pretty catholic (in the dictionary sense of that word), but I still think that "This is Spinal Tap" may be the most perfectly executed film out there.
The six things I could never do without
A clean desk and a cup of black coffee in the morning
Miles Davis' "In a Silent Way"
My bike, or a bike
Bay leaves from my mom's back yard in Napa
Greek yogurt
You should message me if
You want to show me your favorite running route around Hampden or introduce me to the best brisket within biking distance.
