I am Stop, Drop, and Roll.
My Self-Summary
I'm a bookworm who can do a mean Running Man. This is the sentence
that probably sums me up pretty well, but I wish it involved the
words "suave, sexy or Clooney."
I love music and traveling and hate when I feel like I'm not
learning anything new or experiencing something different and
exciting.
I like to be around people that either make me laugh or make me
think, and love being around people who make me do both.
I apparently only speak in declarative sentences. I like
Oreos.
I think confidence is the best thing a person can bring to the
table-- that way you can just jump into "being" instead of having
to chop through all them durn layers.
I have bachelor degrees in religion, philosophy and psychology and
a masters in writing. This makes me both realllly fun to talk to
and realllllly unemployable. Awesome.
I don't have a Facebook account. I realize this makes me an
internet loser.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a novelist who writes screenplays for extra cash. My last book
was non-fiction and recently sold to Simon and Schuster- it's about
a child soldier from the Congo-- it was a crazy, strange experience
doing the interviews for it. I try to split my time between lots of
different activities now, but used to be a professional musician.
Once, I was a circus clown for a week. That was probably a mistake.
I’m really good at
Conversation and stupid stories.
The first things people usually notice about me
I think my energy is what people generally respond to. I'd like to
say my scintillating charm or superb linguistic aptitude...but
probably energy.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books
Author-wise, my guys are Chuck Palahniuk, Kurt Vonnegut, Denis
Johnson, Don DeLillo, Christopher Moore, James Gleik, Neil Gaiman,
Ben Mezrich, Jon Krakauer, Naomi Klein, and (yeah) Michael
Moore.
Individual books I really enjoy are A Confederacy of Dunces, The
Shock Doctrine, BlackBox, and The World is Flat
Movies
Footloose is awesome. I don't care what you say. Noises Off, The
Dark Knight, Memento, Superbad, Borat, Ong Bak, Lord of the Rings
(and TV-wise, I really love the British Office and Arrested
Development)
Music
Really love old Maceo Parker and old Jamiroquai stuff- anything
funk-based. Aphex Twin and Daft Punk, Jennifer Nettles, Journey,
Guns N' Roses, and I'm going through a Chili Peppers resurgence.
And early 90's rap. Yep.
The six things I could never do without
Travel
Music
Ricky Gervais
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Stories, books and veggie burgers
On a typical Friday night I am
I like storytellers, debates, lectures, book readings, movies, slam
poets, plays, and most alternative media venues in the age of
mass-market consumerism. I try to make time in my schedule for
these things.
I also really love to go dancing. Is that emasculating? In any
case, there's not many things that give me as much visceral
pleasure. Along those lines, I really love playing music, watching
live music and listening to music. Metal Skool makes me happy. (but
it's on Mondays)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I almost fell off a mountain once. And got to the final round of
auditions for STOMP three times. Sigh.
You should message me if
You have interesting things to say and aren't totally unfunny.
