My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a fit, energetic dame at sixty-seven, affectionate and loyal, interested in adventure and in learning new things. I am looking for a whimsical, loving partner in crime, a good listener with a sense of humor who appreciates people, someone with whom I can enjoy the arts, the natural world, travel, cultural adventures, entertaining friends, exercise indoors and outside, fooling around, and doing nothing.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I am a writer and a coach. When I am not working, I am at the gym (deep water running, strength and aerobic exercise, Zumba, body pump), hiking, canoeing or kayaking, exploring, observing wildlife, cooking, gardening, seeing movies, reading, listening to music, antiquing, learning about the Internet, and writing short nonfiction. I am interested in books and world events and like discussing them. In September I adopted an Egyptian Mau (cat that is a refugee from Cairo).
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I love strategy games (Abalone, Blokus, and Quoridor are a few), baking, gardening, and playing with ideas. I have a dry sense of humor. I am a good cuddler and an honest and caring friend who will remember and honor your preferences for years on end.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm comfortable in my skin and a good listener.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I love the fiction of Penelope Fitzgerald (she wrote her first novel at the age of sixty!). I have also enjoyed Major Pettigrew's Last Stand and Bel Canto, by Ann Patchett (what a wonderful book!). Some really good movies: The Secret in Their Eyes, an Argentinian thriller that is also a meditation on love; Philomena (Judi Dench has never been better); Nebraska; Phoenix. Past favorites: Billy Elliott, Babette's Feast, Shadowlands, The Singing Detective, and Antonia's Line. I like indie and foreign films. I like many different kinds of music: old jazz (twenties, thirties), lieder and classical, blues, and folk music. I am not big on rap. I enjoy sixties rock sometimes. I avoid scary movies and movies with violent themes. I watch television only occasionally: BBC series and miniseries like Bramwell, Call the Midwife, Doc Martin, The Duchess of Duke Street.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My cat, BosBos
NPR, especially "All Things Considered"
Walks in nature, especially near water
Dark chocolate
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
My goals for the next year or two, both things I want to do for and by myself and things I want to do with someone else. I hope you want to explore the world and to connect with me on many different levels. I would like you to teach me about your passions, especially things about which I know little or nothing.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I like to listen to All Things Considered on NPR, play with my cat, and watch a video or go out to a movie or to dinner with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
We will learn about each other as we get to know each other. The process is gradual and is rather like going into an old house for the first time. As we explore, you and I decide which doors to open and which to leave shut.
