My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a fit, energetic dame at sixty-six, affectionate and loyal, interested in adventure and in learning new things. I am looking for a whimsical, loving partner in crime, a good listener with a sense of humor who enjoys people, someone with whom I can enjoy the arts, the natural world, travel, cultural adventures, entertaining friends, exercise indoors and outside, fooling around, and doing nothing.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I am a writer and a consultant. When I am not working, I am exercising at the gym (deep water running, lifting weights), hiking, canoeing or kayaking, exploring, observing wildlife, cooking, gardening, seeing movies, reading, listening to music, antiquing, learning about Internet marketing, and writing short nonfiction. I am interested in literature and world events and like to talk with others about them.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I love strategy games (Abalone, Blokus, and Quoridor are a few), baking, gardening, and playing with ideas. I am a good cuddler, a good listener, and a caring friend who remembers other people's preferences for years on end and will reach out when others are feeling low.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm not sure, actually. I don't think I've ever asked.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
I love the fiction of Penelope Fitzgerald (she wrote her first novel at the age of sixty!). I have also enjoyed Major Pettigrew's Last Stand and Bel Canto, by Ann Patchett (what a wonderful book!). Some really good movies: The Secret in Their Eyes, an Argentinian thriller that is also a meditation on love; The Iron Lady (astonishing performance by Meryl Streep); Philomena (Judi Dench has never been better); Nebraska. Past favorites: Billy Elliott, Babette's Feast, Shadowlands, The Singing Detective, and Antonia's Line. I like indie and foreign films. I like many different kinds of music: old jazz (twenties, thirties), lieder and classical, blues, and folk music. I am not big on rap. I enjoy sixties rock sometimes. I avoid scary movies and movies with violent themes. The only television I watch is BBC miniseries and the like: Bramwell, Call the Midwife, Doc Martin.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My cat, Charlie Brown
NPR, especially "All Things Considered"
My personal trainer
Walks in nature, especially near water
Dark chocolate
Hugs
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The man who will enter my life and my goals for the next year or two. I am hoping to find a man who wants to explore the world and to connect with me on many different levels. I like the idea of having someone introduce me to interests about which he is passionate and about which I know little or nothing.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I like to have a special dinner, listen to All Things Considered on NPR, play with my cat, and watch a video or go out to a movie or to dinner with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Well, it wouldn't be private if I posted it here, now, would it? You won't find out until we get to know each other. The process is rather like going into an old house for the first time. You and I decide which doors to open and which to leave shut.
