My self-summary
The last month-and-a-half have been pure hell, so if you have sent a message, I haven't answered and probably won't for a couple more weeks. Sorry. Mostly.

When left to my own devices, I end up reading a book or on Reddit. I enjoy the Outernet, but not so much on my own. Kayaking and walking trails. Also the beach.

I am looking for friends.
What I’m doing with my life
Looking for a group of geeks to hang out and do geeky things with. Also people who know local kayaking trails. If you own multiple polyhedral dice AND a kayak, we can be friends.

Totally winning every game of Jeopardy that I watch.

Walking trails and pretending that I am not in the middle of a city.
I’m really good at
Social awkwardness. Being pedantic. Freezing up. Weirdness. Inappropriate comments. REALLY inappropriate comments.

Making people laugh, laughing with people, making an ass out of myself, getting people to talk. Science, language and math. Writing.

Staying up until after sunrise having the kind of conversation that makes your brain spin, in a pleasant way.
The first things people usually notice about me
My DELIGHTFUL repartee. Or my accent. Depends on if it's in person or online.

I recently shaved my head. It was one of those "in support of a friend with cancer" deals. Thank goodness I have great cheekbones.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Science, science-fiction, fantasy. Mary Roach, Bill Bryson, the Foxfire series. Good Omens at least once a year. Guns, Germs and Steel. Collapse. Pretty much anything by Diamond. Old Betty Neels stories. WWZ. Ender's Game. All of the other books they are turning into visual abominations. Modesitt's sf books. Michelle Sagara West.

Daily Show and Colbert Report. The New Normal. Archer. Being Human (UK and US). Glee (still). House of Cards (US). Sherlock and The IT Crowd. Doctor Who. HGTV. The Twilight Zone. Ghost shows. TBBT.

I am the kind of person who drunkchats the SOTU. Shhhhh. Don't tell.

Movies, all of the above. There are very few genres as a whole that I would turn my nose up at. Splatter-porn comes to mind. Happiest with action and sci-fi. And I will judge you based upon your opinion of "Mean Girls," fair warning.

Musically, anything that isn't Wagner or modern country. Unless you are in a gunship bearing down on a target. Then maybe Wagner. I mostly listen to Gershwin, Nirvana, Philip Glass, Janelle Monae and Danny Elfman (Oingo Boingo and solo) at the moment.

A nice, peaty single malt.
The six things I could never do without
Maslow did a pretty good job with this. Top six things that I would never CHOOSE to be without:

°Internet - I am an infovore. Before the World Wide Web, I read encyclopedias for fun.

°Timmy - I joke about being a cat lady, but the orange monster has been the only source of unalloyed happiness in my life for the last decade. See also: Ticket, Timmy's black counterpart. They are my Halloween.

°Sarcasm and optimism. I'm an existential nihilist, I need them both.

°My sense of touch - Any other sense I could lose and compensate. Not this one.

°Water - From being out on a boat or just filling the tub and submerging to relaxing in the surf and staring at the stars, I need water to maintain at least the illusion of sanity.

°My friends - we may have scattered to the four winds, or we may have never met face-to-face, but they are my chosen family. I would trust them with my kidneys.
On a typical Friday night I am
Trying to sleep or not. Going somewhere or staying in. Depends on the week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
When people are nosey, I tell them I can't have kids. It is true, but I really don't WANT to have my own.* "Don't want to" leads to stupid cliches about changing my mind, "can't" generally gets silence.

*I am not averse to a floor-model or preowned kids. Just have no urge to DIY.

On a lighter note, I kind of want to meet the family from Honey Boo Boo.
I’m looking for
  • Everybody
  • Ages 30–43
  • Near me
  • For new friends
You should message me if
You are amusing.

You are intelligent.

You can hold a conversation.
