My self-summary
I am nice; I am intolerant of fools.
I laugh a lot.
usually at myself
What I’m doing with my life
My career was moving in an unsatisfying direction, so I decided to make a change. I've been working on my master's degree. I have a job that I enjoy a lot more than I thought I would.
I’m really good at
Not taking myself too seriously. Sewing. Cooking. Domestic stuff but I'm not really domestic. Chatting with anyone about anything. Making friends. Changing bike tires. Procrastinating.
Being patient when it matters. Learning things the hard way.
Lots of things.
The first things people usually notice about me
dunno. that I'm shorter than my personality would lead you to believe?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
printed favorites,in no particular order: Proulx's "The Shipping News" and Diamond's "Collapse." Barbery's "the elegance of the hedgehog." Non-fiction concerning the Great Depression. "How To" guides for Coco Chanel's couture techniques. Cookbooks.
the work of Bill Watterson.

I am, at the moment, looking forward to reading the newest issue of the Journal of the American Planning Association.

Movies: Blade Runner, Nashville, The Hitchhiker, The Fall (I LOVED this--a swimming elephant! what's not to love?), Tokyo Story, Billy Wilder films, Vertigo, Tree of Life, Peter Weir's films. Pineapple Express. Bond flicks. Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Fugitive. Sunset Boulevard, of course.

music: lately, lots of Miles Davis. melody gardot, iggy, richard thompson, john lee hooker, yo yo ma, willie nelson, the rose ensemble, django reinhardt, jack white and others.

food: thug kitchen although i'm not vegan or a vegetarian
The six things I could never do without
can you tell that I don't want to write any essays?
Six things I would prefer not to do without---
1. Opportunities to make lists
2. Small moments of pure funny, or beauty, or joy--you know, those little haikus in life
3. Really good red wine or Half Acre's Gossamer
4. Walking, sewing projects, & my reading lamp
5. Meaningful work (work that is in conflict with my ethics ain't happenin' anymore)
6. Down time
I spend a lot of time thinking about
economic development and the sustainability of $42/sf rental rates for commercial property. Or how about $65/sf for new construction? How to enact policy that supports local business without stifling an entire community. How to get cranky people to do what they're supposed to do. How to get crazy people to stop doing what they shouldn't be doing.
On a typical Friday night I am
happy that it's Friday
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I liked macrame when I was a kid.
