I'm looking for someone fun loving and a little bit quirky, who likes to go on adventurous day trips, come home to a cup of tea on the sofa and curl up to a classic movie. Someone strong, independent and also completely ok with their own company. To be comfortable enough with someone, that the silent moments are never awkward and the loud moments are full of affectionate abuse (I mean banter...).
I'm a Software Engineer from the Midlands (UK), although now a resident of the South Coast (Southampton UK). I'm currently on Secondment in America (just outside of DC) for 6 months. I would describe myself as sharp and career driven. I feel this is the right age to be so and plan to go as far as my intellect will take me.
In truth I don't think I look like a geek/nerd, but I definitely fall heavily into that category. I am a huge Star Wars fan and have a fair amount of gimmicky memorabilia to put a smile on the faces of those who appreciate the trilogy (yes I said trilogy). I am pretty much a fan of all 80s media (movies and music) and will admit to having the guilty pleasure of enjoying classics like The Breakfast Club while busting a groove to The Human League...
I love music, although I would describe my taste as an acquired one. I enjoy Metal and a few odd sub genres. Currently I'm listening to Periphery, Corelia, Between the Buried and Me and Coheed & Cambria but I have a fairly extensive archive. I also love that whiney acoustic stuff! Anything where someone has taken the time to become skilled with an instrument, I can appreciate! I enjoy seeing live music; having attended my fair share of festivals and gigs in the past.
I started out as a graphic designer and artist when I was in my teens and so have an appreciation for art (digital or otherwise).
I entered the world of Software to try my hand at developing video games. Games are another love of mine and many fans would be pleased and disgusted by my collection. Pleased at the size, disgusted at the fact that a lot of them remain in the wrapper. Although I like to have them, I don't find much time to play them anymore.
Needless to say (I hope), the Gaming Industry doesn't quite pay what it should. And so I became a software engineer for a large organisation, donning the suit and proudly so!
I have a lot of other nerdy hobbies that I will refrain from adding, as I don't want to cut my chances if I haven't already!
I'm not the type that wants to be locked in a dark room tapping away either; although it happens. I enjoy running, cycling, seeing and experiencing new things. Life is truly too short not to.
I enjoy travelling, having spent my new year in Berlin for no good reason, and would enjoy a partner in crime to drag along on my next adventure; maybe Sweden?
If you've read all of this, well done, you're a trooper! I almost didn't.
