My self-summary
Hello, and thank you for reading my profile :). Please do not rate me on quickmatch and hope that I will figure out who you are. Go ahead and send me a message. I promise I do not bite unless you ask first :). Also, I answered my questions seriously, and will take the answers to your questions seriously when I read your profile.

I think it a bit odd that the "you should message me if" section is at the bottom of the profile page. I get that people should read the full profile, but, really, if one gets all the way to the end and then finds deal-breakers, that seems like leading someone on to me. So, here is my "you should message me if" section:

You should message me if
-you are serious about having a long-term relationship.
I have no real interest in casual dating. Friends? Sure? A partner? Absolutely. Random hook-ups or casual dating? No thank you.
-you like intensity.
I am intense, so, ideally, I am looking for someone who likes, and is able to balance, that.
-you are intelligent.
I make no claims to brilliance, but I have had enough
people tell me that my intelligence intimidates them that
I mention it here. I like a challenge.
-you cuddle.
I prefer to be the little spoon but reality involves taking
turns being big spoon as well.
-you love history, and you love keeping it alive.
I am grateful to live in a time when we have made many
advances in technology and medicine. I believe, quite
firmly, however, that we have lost much of value through
the extent to which we ignore or belittle the past.
-you love ballroom dancing.
Ideally, I'd love to find a dance partner (one who prefers to
lead). Here is an example of what I would love to learn:

Deal breakers: Smoking (anything), drugs, excessive drinking, open relationships, and closed minds. Those who feel that spirituality and science are in conflict with each other, or feel that a strict gender binary is a good thing, need not apply. Lastly, I feel I should say that I have no interest in having, nor desire to have, children. If this is a deal-breaker for you, then, I would rather get that out of the way now :).

Now, back to the summary :):

I have been saying for years that if I had to pick an animal that would be the closest to my personality, it would be the Ruby-Throated Hummingbird. I was researching whether one could keep these as pets (alas, the answer is "no"), and found this one-sentence description of them (I swear I could not have written a better description of myself): "Anyone having such an animal for a companion must provide constant mental stimulation by spending time interacting with it and varying its surroundings to present interesting challenges to keep it entertained."
What I’m doing with my life
at the moment is working on myself.
I’m really good at
Making lists, creating incredibly detailed schedules that I then never follow, and remembering useless (though often comical) information. Seriously, there is an inverse relationship between something's direct use to me, and my likelihood of remembering said thing.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I am high-energy, friendly, out-going, and passionate.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
A (not-so) random sampling includes:

-The Dark is Rising
-His Dark Materials Trilogy
-Harry Potter (even if the fanfiction is better)
-Pride & Prejudice

-Lemony Snicket's: A Series of Unfortunate Events
-Pride & Prejudice

Shows (I do not watch television, but my roommate's DVD collection is quite extensive):
-Downton Abbey
-Eureka (RIP)
-Merlin (RIP)

I read a line that sums this up perfectly: "My taste in music ranges from 'you need to listen to this' to 'I know, please don't judge me'".

Yes. I like most foods, and will try just about any dish. While I tend to not eat meat very often, I do enjoy it when I do. Some of my favorite types of food include: German, Thai, Dim Sum, Sushi, Chinese, Italian, Russian, Indian, and Mexican. Pastries are a (not-so-guilty) pleasure. I vacillate on whether chocolate-chip cookie dough is a food group or not.

Sense of Humor:
If you find these funny, we are likely to have the same sense of humor:
The six things I could never do without
1. My bicycle
2. My backpack
3. Dancing
4. Creativity/Imagination/Artistry
5. Music
6. Something sweet (ideally pastries and/or chocolate, though fresh fruit is acceptable :))
I spend a lot of time thinking about
projects. I am a very creative and artistic person, but I have an equally strong sense of organization functionality. For me, projects need to be beautiful *and* functional. As it is possible (though often challenging) to do both, I see no reason to settle for less :).

why OKCupid saves all of my preferences for the match search except for the status section. Why is that the only one it drops? I would think that someone being single would be arguably the most important search criterion.

Also, the sheer number of gay men on this site who smoke pot and/or do drugs, and get the basic math and grammar questions wrong, and believe in creationism, and want children. Seriously, I fear for the future of our society if *those* are the people bringing children into this world or raising them.
On a typical Friday night I am
recovering from a long week most likely. I tend to have very busy weekends, and sometimes have events on weeknights, but, Fridays seem to be free most of the time.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Pfft. As if *anything* one types on the internet is ever "private". Besides, that would be telling 0:).
I’m looking for
  • Gay guys only
  • Ages 23–32
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For long-term dating
You should message me if
In case you skipped to this section without reading the rest of my profile, I put this section near the top (the third, fourth, and fifth paragraphs).
