My self-summary
I plan to record an album someday, and I'm very slowly working toward having the instrumental chops to do it. I'd like to learn to break dance, too.

I love to run through the woods, camp, hike, climb up cliffs, jump off cliffs, swim, snowboard, and practice yoga.
What I’m doing with my life
I live downtown in an old winery with one of the smarter members of our generation. For monies, I help three others build an employment program at a state-wide behavioral health nonprofit serving the severely mentally ill. My weekends are spent teaching my six-year-old son in Fort Wayne to read, play the piano, enjoy vegetables, and defend himself against bullies, adults, and mean girls.

The rest of my time is spent cooking, philosophizing with my roommate and his girlfriend, and watching Battlestar Gallactica.
I’m really good at
Arguing, practicing, writing, learning, guessing, and loving. Not in that order, I'd like I think...
The first things people usually notice about me
Oddly enough, recently it's been my neck. Not kidding. Or my hair. Seriously, I had a string of three people tell me I have a nice neck, and then two or three people referred to me as "the guy with the great hair." That shit is flattering, and it builds my fragile ego...but who has a thing for necks? (I know at least two people, actually, so you can disregard that question.)

In real life, however, people notice my genuineness. I don't lie and generally I don't hold back. But I also care a lot about other people, so I'll do my best not to hurt anyone's feelings.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books:
Science Fiction: The Ender (and Bean) Series, virtually everything Kurt Vonnegut Jr. wrote, Isaac Asimov, Warren Fahy

Non-Fiction: Brian Greene, Michael Pollan, Sam Harris, Steven Hawking, Christopher Hitchens, Jon Krakauer

Movies: The Fountain, Tree of Life, Iron Man, The Matrix, Fight Club, Snatch, Avatar, Drive, Star Trek (JJ Abrams), I Love You Phillip Morris...anything that elicits intense emotions--except fear. I can't watch gruesome horror.

Shows: Doctor Who, Battlestar Gallactica, Firefly, Arrested Development, The Walking Dead

Music: Anything swanky, Haim, Penguin Prison, Capital Cities, The Weeknd, Chromeo, The Black Keys, Radiohead, and a ton of other stuff.

Food: vegetables, ethically-raised meat, fruit, nuts, and grassfed dairy. Yes, I know it sounds pretentious, but this stuff matters.

Love
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The future, in a space-agey, science fictiony sort of way; theoretical politics, in an anti-capitalist, evolutionary humanist sort of way; music; and Doctor Who.
On a typical Friday night I am
Elaborately reading my son bedtime stories, complete with voices, sound effects, and added bonus material.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I played Barbies with my [female] neighbor when we were little.

  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 21–30
  • Near me
  • For new friends, short-term dating, activity partners
You should message me if
You're awesome and/or enjoy having ridiculous conversations on absurd topics.

I suppose enjoying reasonable conversations on realistic topics is fine, too.
