My self-summary
I'm an easygoing, somewhat scatterbrained person. Although I'm usually purposefully doing something, every once in a while I like to stop scampering around, take a deep breath, and enjoy the scenery. I like to think of myself as very open-minded.

I try to always have at least one ongoing creative project. I finish about 20% of them. Right now I'm trying to develop a multi-platform educational math game.

I'm socially liberal and fiscally wishy-washy. The closest political label you could stick on me would be Libertarian. I'm all about LGBT rights, feminism, and destroying the gender binary.

My preferred forms of exercise are running, swimming, squash, rock climbing and the rowing machine.

I was born in Russia and moved to the states when I was 7. I still speak, read, and write in Russian fluently.

I like cats.

I recently worked in Ireland for 6 months and hosted couchsurfers (couchsurfing.org). It made me realize how much I missed meeting new people. Also, a bunch of my friends moved away after graduation, so I'm looking for some froody reinforcements.
What I’m doing with my life
I recently graduated with a BS in Computer Engineering from Northeastern University and moved into a house in Somerville with 4 other recent grads. I'm working as a software engineer for the time being. In my free time I read, sail, play board games, camp, hike, cook, and try to figure my life out.
I’m really good at
I'm a good listener, have good hand-eye coordination, an excellent imagination and a relatively long attention span. Specifically, I'm decent at programming, writing, math, understanding people and video games.
The first things people usually notice about me
People tend to think I'm shy, but I'm really not. I just don't like small talk. I like long, meaningful conversations, as well as short, ridiculous ones, just not talking for the sake of talking. I don't find silences awkward.

To quote Mia Wallace:
"That's when you know you found somebody special. When you can just shut the fuck up for a minute, and comfortably share silence."
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I try but usually fail to update these often:

Books: goodreads.com/shplorf
Movies: flickchart.com/teh_russians
Music: last.fm/user/vigilant_dm

For books I'm a big fan of SF: Ray Bradbury, Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, Neil Stephenson, Dan Simmons, Greg Egan, Frank Herbert, and The Strugatsky Brothers. I like to mix in some Terry Pratchett, Douglass Adams or Neil Gaiman every once in a while for comic relief. Also lately I've been reading a lot of history, specifically about the Mongol empire and the WW2 era. Winston Churchill was such a BAMF.

I read a lot of webcomics. Questionable Content, Abstruse Goose, and SMBC are the ones I check regularly.

I like movies that inspire and make me think, but sometimes there's nothing like some simple gratuitous violence. Some favorites are Inception, Serenity, Run Lola Run, Ghost in the Shell, Atonement, Infernal Affairs, Oldboy, Amelie, All the Guy Ritchie films, American Beauty, Good Will Hunting, Princess Bride, The Man from Earth, Burn After Reading, Mononoke-hime, The English Patient, The Matrix, Kill Bill, Inglourious Basterds, and Les misérables(The 1995 one with Jean-Paul Belmondo).

Shows: The Wire, Boston Public, The West Wing, Deadwood, House of Cards, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, Attack on Titan

I listen to a lot of Russian rock and metal, mellow indie rock with mostly female vocals, some classic, a lot of random pop and techno, and RAMMSTEIN.

Every once in a while I have Eminem phases.

Whiteyes is amazing cloud-watching music.

Been getting into Pendulum and other similar electronic music recently.

I like to get my nom-noms on. My favorie food varies a lot, but semi-constant favorites include dumplings, sushi, meat pies, hot & sour soup, and muffins.
The six things I could never do without
Hmm. There's really no THING I could NEVER do without. I guess I'm not a very materialistic person...

That sounds a bit pretentious. The most important objects in my life would have to be my laptop, my multi-tool, my phone, my Kindle, my notepad, and comfy shoes.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
EVERYTHING. Seriously, I am a hardcore philosophizer. I mean, I do tend to think about sex rather often, but that's kind of implied. I like to think about probabilities. And magic. And just how fucking beautiful everything is.
On a typical Friday night I am
Usually doing something with people. Movie-watching, gaming, running around outside being silly.
