I am creative, engaging, and magical.

My Self-Summary

I just moved to Huntington Beach and am looking to meet some new people! I love living on the beach and enjoy the culture of Huntington, which is a lot more diverse than some other places in Orange County which shall remain nameless but suck nonetheless.

I try not to take things too seriously...that will just lead to heart attacks, or so I've heard. I enjoy sarcastic people, intelligent people, creative people, and sarcastic intelligent creative people (yes, lack of commas in extended adjective train, sue me).

I've found that professional life sort of inhibits social experimentation, especially if your company is small and consists mainly of married people who seem confused by anyone who is single, enjoys wearing band shirts, and spends weekends hanging out with the local roller derby squad, so hello OK Cupid.

At any rate...I like hockey, soccer, running, BMX, roller derby, computers, cameras, artwork in various forms, movies, music (listening / playing), technology, classic cars, emulating Jack Daniel, autumn, thunderstorms and/or lightning, Tom Cruise (too funny), vikings, pirates, lightsabers, and that one video game you always find in pizzerias where you shoot little colored bubbles at similarly colored bubbles.

...be honest, everyone likes that game.

What I’m doing with my life

I am a full-time professional photographer, manager at a stock photography agency, and editor at a publishing company owned by the same guy---weird combination of companies to own, right? I went to UC Santa Barbara and double majored in English and Film, so I feel fortunate to be using that knowledge every day (kind of) and not having to beg for money on the street. "Dude, can you spare some change? I'll play you the Super Mario Bros. theme on my guitar for a bag of Doritos."

In my free time, when I'm not whoring myself career-wise, I do freelance photography for a variety of people and events. My main gig used to be band photography, where I got the opportunity to shoot Strung Out, No Use For a Name, Bleeding Through, Dead to Me, the Lawrence Arms, Death by Stereo, Royal Crown Revue, Every Time I Die, A Kiss Could Be Deadly, Electric Valentine, and tons of others. I still do that from time to time, but these days I focus more on roller derby photos than anything else. I am one of the photographers for the OC Roller Girls, and I absolutely love it. It's an entirely different skill set than shooting bands, and more of a challenge, but derby is amazingly fun and getting to be involved with a group of girls who want to start a club called "Team Bar Fight" is never boring.

At some point I also plan to get back into writing in my spare time and create a novel about a modern-day Great Gatsby-esque character so fantastic that F. Scott Fitzgerald will literally rise from his grave and offer to buy me a Jack & Coke because of it.

I was a DJ in college (house / hard dance) and would like to do it again someday. No, I will not play you any Kanye West records.

I’m really good at

EVERYTHING!*

*Total lie.

I'm good at photography and anything involving the English language, written or spoken. According to OKC, I'm also good at being a smart ass.

Other things I'm decent at: knowing random trivia facts that have very little practical use, soccer, BMX, roller skating, guitar, DJing, driving well above the speed limit, purchasing retarded action movies on DVD, disliking people who have those stickers on the back of their car that show how many children and pets they have, drinking beverages created by pirates and old southern gentlemen, and wishing I lived in a less conservative county. Goddamn OC, I swear.

I am okay at math but hate it with a passion. More letters, less numbers, please. You math kids freak me out.

The first things people usually notice about me

Usually I'd say my height or the fact that I have hair roughly the same color as Billy Idol, but it can vary depending on the situation. If I'm doing photos in a public place, people most likely notice the fact that there is some guy taking photos, and then they probably start singing "Rebel Yell" in their heads because of the hair.

...people also seem to find it fascinating that I have black nails, for whatever reason. I literally had a woman in an airport parking lot tell me, "I've never seen black nail polish on a guy before!" What the hell? Do you live in a cave?

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books - reading is good. My favorite authors are Julie E. Czerneda, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Michel Houellebecq, Emily Bronte, Joseph Conrad, James Ellroy, Carl Hiaasen, Edgar Allen Poe, Chuck Palahniuk, and William Shakespeare, in no particular order. However, I will read almost anything. I also like graphic novels.

Movies - I feel fortunate that I got to study books and movies in college. Liberal arts for the win! I'm a fan of most genres: sci-fi (Star Wars, The Matrix, Equilibrium), adventure (Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean), comedy (Super Troopers, Old School, Anchorman, The Hangover), black comedy (American Psycho), drama (Good Will Hunting, Virgin Suicides), horror (Wrong Turn, Scream, Alphabet Killer), animation (Daria, Cowboy Bebop, Blood+), and anything else that can hold my attention and not be too wrapped up in its own smug bullshit (indie films, I'm looking at you!).

Music - music is my favorite thing ever. I like vinyl, and especially vinyl that is classic rock (Tom Petty, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Aerosmith), modern rock (Collective Soul, Kings of Leon, Lucero, Metric), punk (Strung Out, Lagwagon, A Wilhelm Scream, Flogging Molly), metal (Children of Bodom, Unearth, Kalmah, Arch Enemy), jazz (Acoustic Alchemy, Charlie Haden, Miles Davis), acoustic / indie (Broken Social Scene, A Fine Frenzy, Kaki King), house (Sam Sparro, Deadmau5, Samantha James, Daft Punk), trance (Gabriel & Dresden, Above & Beyond, Tiesto), electro (Friendly Fires, Cut / Copy, Datarock, Empire of the Sun), drum n' bass (Danny Byrd, High Contrast, Brookes Brothers), UK hardcore (Bang!, Brisk & Ham, Force & Styles), and a bit of country (Wreckers, Charlie Daniels Band, Avett Brothers) and hip hop (Outkast, Lady Sovereign), et cetera. My entire music collection can be viewed at the following link if you're really interested. Copy, paste, go go go! http://www.recordnerd.com/lists/Faithless01

Food - food would be my least favorite thing out of these four. I like Italian, Chinese, and Mexican food. I also enjoy miserable Lean Cuisines microwave lunches and Top Ramen, plus popsicles and that pizookie desert thing they have at BJ's. Is vodka a food?

The six things I could never do without

1. Music
2. Friends / family
3. Cameras
4. Warm weather
5. Tattoos
6. Literature / art

That list doesn't make sense, now that I look at it. Oh well.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Photography and career stuff, mainly how to keep advancing in a somewhat narrow artistic field that seems to be both contracting and expanding at the same time (don't ask).

Sometimes I am also pissed that we don't have flying cars yet. Or robots that can mix drinks and retrieve the mail. Thanks for nothing, Science!!

On a typical Friday night I am

Out with friends, shooting photos, partying, reading a book, playing guitar, at a hockey game, seeing a movie...but not simultaneously.

On Saturday nights I generally wish it was Friday night, and on Sunday I wish all day long that it was Saturday. I'm waiting for Obama to institute the four-day work week. Come on, dude.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

One time I was at my friend's Christmas party in Hollywood and I passed out on her bed. I later woke up to find Andy Dick sitting on the bed giving me the eye like he was about to molest me.

True story! But always a nice conversation starter, especially if you hate Andy Dick and are glad that Jon Lovitz punched him in the face at a hot wings restaurant, which is also a true story.

You should message me if

You're a smart, confident girl looking for a date, or a movie partner, or a soccer teammate, someone to go running with, discuss literature with, bar-hopping with, or whatever. I'm outgoing and willing to do almost anything with the right person or group of people.

Send a message, an IM, or a candy-gram. I spend time in OC, LA, and San Diego and don't mind driving to hang out.

...if you can actually figure out how to send a candy-gram through the Internet, you are brilliant and I will bake you a cake. If you use the Pony Express to do so, I'll buy your groceries for a year.
