My self-summary
My romantic philosophy is sort of a combination of my favorite romantic movies: Wall-E, Up and March of the Penguins. Depending on how you look at it, love is...
...overriding your programming,
...carrying out a fantastic dream in your loved one's memory, or
...a 62-mile march through a vast frozen wilderness, sustained by a little hope, a lot of duty, and an amazing display of the northern lights.

ISFJ (Personality profile: http://typelogic.com/isfj.html . ISFJs in relationships: http://www.personalitypage.com/ISFJ_rel.html)

I like to read and talk about science, history and politics. I like both the Green Party and the Libertarian Party. I'm looking for someone who likes visiting museums, zoos, and aquariums, hiking, spending time in nature (especially snow), and live music in small, intimate clubs.

I'm a spiritual person and consider myself Quaker, but I can't really embrace formal religion because of the way religious groups codify morality. I consider the great outdoors as my church.

I don't drive--I take the bus, walk, and have stuff delivered.

My ideal man is equally happy "going out" to walk around the Bolsa Chica wetlands or "staying in" to watch Star Wars or the Lord of the Rings trilogy. And he must be okay with letting the dog sleep in the bed.
What I’m doing with my life
I work in university office administration--grant-writing and events coordination--for an education research project on how games and hobbies help children learn academic and social skills. I'm financially stable, have great benefits, and a plan to retire comfortably, and on top of all that, I believe in the mission of my workplace and know we are contributing to the greater good.

I have a B.A. in English and a master's in Creative Writing, which is like a black belt in being useless to society. I also have a certificate in TESL and am now taking classes in database management.
I’m really good at
Building IKEA furniture
Scrabble
Writing fiction and poetry
Gardening
Drawing
Giving people enough space

I like to play ukulele although only my dog thinks I'm "good" at it.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm very petite! I wear glasses, and a lot of purple. I'm low-maintenance, kind, and shy/reserved around new people.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
The best short story that ever existed: Raymond Carver, "A Small, Good Thing."

Magazines/e-magazines: The Atlantic, Slate, LiveScience, Space.com, National Geographic, Popular Science, Hobby Farms, Urban Farms, various cooking & gardening publications

Movies: comedies, dramas and documentaries. My all-time favorite comedies are Clerks, High Fidelity, The Breakfast Club.

TV: The Tudors, Downton Abbey, Mad Men, Revolution, Jericho, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, True Blood, Firefly, Star Trek, Ancient Aliens. I also love the Discovery Channel, History Channel and SyFy.

Music: sentimental, folky acoustic rock: Augustana, Yellow Red Sparks, Matt Hires, Dashboard Confessional, R.E.M., the Smiths... 90's grunge and alternative acts; classics like Social Distortion, The Cure, The Clash, the Ramones.

Food: About a year ago I developed a serious allergy to sulfites & an intolerance of amines. I have become a good cook and eat mostly vegetarian (meat only about once a week).

Other obsessions: Garfield Minus Garfield, New Yorker cartoons, The Onion
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
My grandfather, when he was dying of cancer, would often go quiet, his eyes wistful, while he took in everything and everyone visiting and chatting around him. If we asked what he was doing or thinking about, he'd say, "I'm making a memory." Happy moments can be rare and brief, and it's important to hold onto them, treasure them and be grateful for them. I want someone who gets this.

It's important to be honest about who you are and what you want. I believe in true love, want to be a good & loyal partner, save for a house together and get married. If you have other goals for your life, please don't waste both our time.

"Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts, and don’t put up with people that are reckless with yours."
