I am creative, loyal, and funny.

My Self-Summary

I'm a bit of an anomaly. While most of my life has been dedicated to music, both through composition/performance and my journalistic endeavors, I don't necessarily fit the typical stereotypes associated with this field. Too rockin' for the squares, too "about the music" for the burnouts, if you will. I don't listen to or play just one type of music, I don't dress one specific way (though these days I have a bias toward Italian designed suits and footwear, vintage brocade tux jackets, zoot fedoras, and the always trusty top hat), and I don't tend to rigidly follow party lines. Common sense dictates that the difference between right and wrong is fairly clear, but in general life is made up of shades of grey. I think accepting that fact makes it easier when life demands you call an audible--sometimes you have to change the gameplan to win and you can't freeze in the headlights during those moments. Besides, one dimensional is no way to live. What I'm speaking of here is a sense of individuality and balance--not indecisiveness or flaking out.

The last five years of my life have been shaped in large part by being a caretaker to sick loved ones, both related and in my relationships. From breast cancer, to multiple sclerosis, to mental illness and depression, I've seen a lot. I'm happy to say that even those who've moved on are relatively healthy, happy, and safe. My ability to stand for the people I love has been road tested and I think everyone would say I've done them proud. Whoever becomes a part of my life is guaranteed that I will not run when the chips are down.

This said, I am not perfect and don't expect perfection in my partner. Honest mistakes will be made here and there. Still, debilitating problems just aren't going to work for me. This is not only limited to health issues, but things like "I'm separated but not divorced"--ends those loose need to be tied before moving forward. Again, I can and will be a rock for whoever I wind up with should a serious health crisis arise, but if the conditions are pre-existing, I'm going to have to pass.

Eccentricity (of the genuine, non-contrived variety), wit, kindness, creativity, confidence, humor, and vision are all endearing and wildly sexy in a woman. Due to my involvement in and passion for it, an interest in music would probably be beneficial, but isn't the be-all-end-all. As a colleague of mine from Hungary told me years ago "you don't need a girl who loves music, you need a woman who loves you." Sage words.

Character seems to be the hardest thing to find in people. If you have good character, I'd definitely like to hear from you, even if it doesn't result in a love connection.

I've never touched a drug in my life and rarely drink (though wine tinged kisses are fantastic and warm, plus I love dark heavy stouts when the taste for a beer hits). To these ends, substance abuse of any kind (yes, that includes prescription medication) is a relationship deal-breaker (ditto for infidelity).

Based on sheer experience, I know better than to think love is as uncomplicated as it's made out in those cheesy old John Hughes films--a problem I think too many people have. Still, the optimist in me believes there's a love out there that can sustain the feeling of white light joy I experience when I listen to Radio City, #1 Record, and especially Forever Changes. If you know those records, definitely get in touch, if for no other reason than to talk shop.

Living in the typical small Arkansas town with no social foodchain, there really aren't many other options for ways to meet new people. There's too much sensory distraction in a bar to really make a connection, so this seems like the best option. I'm through living life with a finger on the pause button. I've always been a pretty laid back person and am over being touched by drama. Fun and laughter are the order of this day. Are you game? Let's confab on it and see where the journey takes us....

What I’m doing with my life

Musically: Right now, I'm pretty excited about a batch of power pop material I have ready to demo--in the vein of the first Big Star album or Chris Bell's "I Am The Cosmos." Still coming up with stuff in every other genre under the sun, but that's definitely what's on deck next.

Writing: A ton of record reviews, as always. I'm also compiling and editing the output of the music website I ran for 10 years to possibly issue as a book.

I’m really good at

Standing for the people I love during times of crisis, songwriting, making people laugh, obsessing over every facet of music, playing video games, communicating, and oh so much more....

The first things people usually notice about me

My eyes--everyone says there is kindness to me because of them, no matter how snarling I try to come across:)

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Having been an English major in college, I do enjoy quite a bit of classic literature. Still, music is my passion and most of the books I enjoy reading are related to that. Last book read: Eye Mind: The Saga Of Roky Erickson And The 13th Floor Elevators.

Movies: Juno, Superbad, Death Proof, Planet Terror, Borat, Natural Born Killers, Clockwork Orange, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Clerks I & II, Ed Wood, the Harry Potter movies, Star Wars (sans all the prequels except the last one), tons of old Hammer horror films, terrible b-movie fare of all varieties, more concert DVDs than you could imagine.

Food: I'm pretty open in this category but LOVE sushi!

Music: Happily, this is only a fraction of my depth in this area--Lost Sounds, Sixteens, Vanishing, Phantom Limbs, Digital Leather, Destruction Unit, Nervous Patterns, Screamers, Von Iva, Subtonix, Glass Candy, Quintron, Flossie & The Unicorns, MC Trachiotomy, Zeek Sheck, Monotrona, Gary Numan, Ultravox, DEVO, Chameleons UK, ANTiSEEN, Hammerlock, Hellstomper, Dead Kings, Cocknoose, Before I Hang, Rancid Vat, Hookers, Nashville Pussy, Zeke, Bootleg Bill, Jabbers, GG Allin, Mentors, Cramps, Gun Club, Oblivians, Gories, Thee Headcoats, Thee Headcoatees, Thee Mighty Caesars, Scientists, Kim Salmon, Nick Cave, Siouxsie, PJ Harvey, Jeffrey Novak's One Man Band, Monsieur Jeffrey Evans, Gibson Bros., 68 Comeback, Viva L'American Death Ray, Oscars, Stooges, MC5, Black Sabbath, Black Oak Arkansas, Ace Frehley, Motorhead, Sam Gopal, Hawkwind, King Crimson, 13th Floor Elevators, Catholic Boys, Tyrades, Compulsive Gamblers, Reigning Sound, Iron Maiden, Reatards, Mouserocket, New York Dolls, Johnny Thunders, Dead Boys, Germs, Real Kids, Link Wray, Charlie Feathers, Roy Orbison, Elvis, Hank Williams Sr., Hasil Adkins, Misfits, Reverend Bizarre, Burning Witch, Khanate, Saint Vitus, Bedemon, Pentagram, Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus, While Heaven Wept, Solstice, Dio, Black Label Society, Van Halen, Thin Lizzy, Chrome Cranks, Bassholes, The Tears, Gideon Smith & The Dixie Damned, Rotten Apples, Bloodloss, Turbonegro, W.A.S.P., Cheerleader666, Mountain, Captain Beefheart, Bobbyteens, Runaways, Suzi Quatro, Avengers, T Rex, Sweet, Gary Glitter, Grand Funk Railroad, Ted Nugent, Amboy Dukes, Big Star, Acid King, Back From The Grave, Johnny Cash, Cheater Slicks, Mummies, Dogs D'Amour, Drags, John Fahey, Cheap Trick, Flat Duo Jets, Flamin' Groovies, Hanoi Rocks, Guided By Voices, Grifters, Celtic Frost, Hellhammer, Honeymoon Killers, Husker Du, Judas Priest, Joan Jett, King Brothers, Guitar Wolf, Lost Breed, Manowar, Jerry McCain, Menster Phip, New Order, Joy Division, Pavement, Helium, Yo La Tengo, Thinking Fellers Union, FEAR, High On Fire, Bad Times, Winter, Witchfinder General, Lita Ford, AC/DC, Pretty Things, Quadrajets, Pussy Galore, Ramones, Radio Birdman, Red House Painters, Modern Lovers, Raging Slab, Seeds, Revelators, Sixty Watt Shaman, Sleep, Sodom, Soilent Green, Sonic Youth, Southern Culture On The Skids, Blues Explosion, Spinanes, Spirit Caravan, S.O.D., D.R.I., Suicide, Supercharger, Superchunk, Loli & The Chones, Disco Rick, Doro, Ghetto Ways, Knockout Pills, Final Solutions, Demolition Doll Rods, Blacktop, Flowers In The Attic, The Gates Of Slumber, King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Venom, Mythic, Flock Of Seagulls, Loudmouths, Slayer, Bikini Kill, Babes In Toyland, Ponys, Mystery Girls, Pagan Altar, Leaving Trains, Goatsnake, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Scorpions, UFO, Saxon, Angel Witch, Evil Army, The Compulsions, The Nerds, Polecat Boogie Revival, Born Losers, Cheap Trick, Rick Springfield, Prix, Shoes, the Records, Big Star, The Scruffs, and a LOT more.

The six things I could never do without

Musical instruments of all sorts (especially guitars), recording equipment, notebooks, pens and pencils, laughter, and one great woman.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Love and songs.

On a typical Friday night I am

Playing/writing/recording songs, listening to/writing about records, visiting friends, or being lonely/bored out of my mind.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm stumped--will have to come back to this one.

You should message me if

You have good character and are game for wonderful times.
