My self-summary
It was one of those slightly brisk days which make the difference in the summertime, when I was about to take off for my dauntless and defiant endeavour. The direction was north and the goal was Germany, the neat tidy teutonic country you may have heared about in various history lessons. Well, I can reassure you that I didn't find any world conquerors there, nor was I forced to eat Schweinebraten & Sauerkraut. Instead I was about to meet an incredibly kind and open-minded person, who - I will be honest - was my first online date ever. Of course, me being again here, writing these few lines to you dear reader, makes it very easy to conclude that my venture's final outcome was not an old fashioned Hollywood-happy-ending one. Yet, I'd say: Yes, it was damn worth, and hell I would do something like that again!
What I’m doing with my life
Striving sometimes more, sometimes less to improve myself.
I’m really good at
Itinerary planning, reading maps, writing one-page movie-reviews, learning foreign languages, losing at Mensch ärgere dich nicht.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I speak every language with a German accent - except German itself of course which I speak with an Austrian accent.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
2001: A Space Odyssey (and actually everything else by Kubrick), Grave of the Fireflies, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (Chan-wook Park), Kill Bill (Tarantino, the Great), The Truman Show, Before Sunrise, Sleuth, Down by Law (Jarmusch), 8½ (Fellini), Les douze travaux d'Astérix, Lola rennt, Sudba Cheloveka (Sergei Bondarchuk), Festen, Babam ve Oğlum, No Man's Land (Danis Tanović), Greed (Erich Stroheim), Dr. Mabuse, der Spieler (Fritz Lang), Die Austernprinzessin (Ernst Lubitsch), The Kid (Chaplin), Cosmos (Carl Sagan)... and I could list some two-three hundred other titles and at least fifty more directors. But I think with the ones above you got the idea.

In general the complete works by Erich Fromm and Ivan Turgenev. I also enjoy Aleksandr Pushkin (The Queen of Spades), Ernest Hemingway (The Old Man and the Sea), Aldous Huxley (Brave New World), Jean-Paul Sartre (Les jeux sont fait) and - among the contemporary ones - Bernhard Schlink (Der Vorleser). Right now I'm reading Proust's magnum opus: "In Search of Lost Time" - but I can already see, it'll remain in this list once I'm through with it.

To be honest I'm not (anymore) very much into TV, but here and then I'll turn the satellite dish and watch following shows: Mit offenen Karten (arte), Zapping International (arte), Quite Interesting (BBC), Top Gear (BBC), Peep Show (Channel 4). In general I only trust documentaries aired on arte, BBC Four, France 5 and TV5 Monde.

Practicly anything except for the stuff you'd hear on a 'mainstream'-radiostation - things like:
Electronica (AIR, FC kahuna, Telepathe, Zero7, Moby, Radio Soulwax, etc.), Beethoven (especially the 7th Symphony - I can play the beginning of of the allegretto even on piano), Schubert, Chopin, Grieg, Prokofiev, Debussy...
German satiric music (Die Doofen, Max Raabe, etc.), Italian commie music (e.g. Modena City Ramblers), Balkans instrumental music (Janika Balaž, Slonovski Bal, etc.), various oldies from the 50/60s, some party and dance music from the 80/90s...

anything containing olive oil, basil, tomatoes and mozzarella. Ćevapčići with ajvar. Camembert and a glass of pinot grigio. sesame paste and hunny with a cup of tea for breakfast. scrambled eggs. spring rolls. IKEA-meatballs. couscous. afternoon tea. chocolate with nougat... but in general I'm not too fussy and I love trying new things.
The six things I could never do without
and freedom.
The Sun,
the Earth
and oxygen.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
since very recently: humbleness (in the sense of the German word "Demut") - because (at least in German) it's so obvious what is meant when you say it - though it's all but easy to achieve it truly as a philosophy of life.
On a typical Friday night I am
A typical Friday night... What's that? Some new EU Directive?
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I don't like online-chatting and/or instant-messaging. In my opinion that's just pointless smattering.
Instead I prefer writing letters, just like penpals. Turns usually out to be much more in profoundness and very sincere.
Skype-calls are also fine - after some time.
