I am original, compassionate, and a little strange.

My Self-Summary

Yes, I said "a little strange". I guess that is because I'm a bit of an admixture of things. I'm a fifty-six year old (and I'm not fudging) widow with dreams still to fulfill. I think I have enough to last me into my eighties and beyond.

I'm shy (at first) and sassy. Formal and relaxed. I enjoy cooking for large crowds and snuggling up on a couch to read poetry aloud.

If you're looking for someone independent, sassy, beautiful, caring, and tall, well, perfect I think you would be better moving on to someone else. I'm only three out of the five. . .I'm short, plain, and I wear glasses.

What I’m doing with my life

I work full time as a health care professional. I love my patients but the work is exhausting, on many levels. I'm in the midst of getting a house ready for the market in another state so I can finally get back to living in my own home. I'm as active in my church, Unitarian-Universalist, as my professional life allows. I'm also in the midst of designing my personal website; I've put it off for way too long.

I’m really good at

Several things, I think. Some of which are on a need to know basis. But I bake wonderful bread, stuff a great flounder, and I am undaunted by the idea of cooking for a crowd of 25, 50, or 100. I believe myself to be very good at my profession. I listen very well. I was cursed long ago with the penchant for listening to both sides of an issue. This hasn't faded very much.

The first things people usually notice about me

I don't know what it is but there is something that baffles me. If I'm in the supermarket folks will ask me where things are or how to prepare something. If I'm walking down the street (even in a foreign country) people will ask me for directions. What is this? An air of competence? Helpfulness?

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: anything by Lois McMasters Bujold, poetry of all stripes, sci-fi, some philosophy, audio mysteries when I'm traveling

Movies: Peter Jackson's Ring Trilogy, extended version; Pan's Labyrinth; The Last Unicorn; The Hunt for Red October; Snow Falling on Cedars; Something the Lord has Made; Briget Jones' Diary (yes, I am a chick after all!)

Music: I like a lot of the selections they play on "Hearts of Space", very limited amounts of country, Debussey, composers (primarily Russian)of the Romantic Period, Wagner's Ring Cycle (when I can watch it. Opera was meant to be multi-media entertainment.) And yes, I still enjoy listening to rock and roll, although I confess to a preference for my own time period.

Food: Creole-Cajun, Greek, Soul Food, Southern, French. . .I must confess I really don't care much for Thai or Indian. And I do eat sushi from time to time.

The six things I could never do without

1. a dream or two
2. coffee in the morning
3. a tree outside my window
4. laughter/joy
5. love in my life
6. a soft comforter and good sheets!

I spend a lot of time thinking about

the future. The things I want to do/accomplish with my life. Mysteries of the metaphysical type. How people, even myself, rarely truly ever live life completely. . .think of the play "Our Town" if that rings a bell. How precious each moment is.

After all that deep thought, I think about the laundry I need to do, what to cook for dinner, and that it is time to clean the cat boxes.

On a typical Friday night I am

dragging in from work around eight most Friday nights.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

There are some things a lady just doesn't divulge. until much later. Besides. . .isn't it more fun to "discover" some things for yourself?

You should message me if

If you are brave. . .curious. . .
