My self-summary
I was raised in the south east but you won’t hear an accent in my voice. I lost that many years ago but maintained my southern demeanor and strong sense of community. After graduating from the University of Florida, I left my southern roots and moved to Boston where I lived for several years before moving to the Bay area. 30+ years in Oakland, I consider myself a Californian.

By profession I am an Occupational Therapist but my sweet tooth sent me down a different path and into a thriving business that I still own and enjoy. I continue to practice OT a few days a month because I enjoy that too.

I am a good and compassionate human being with an adventurous streak which has taken me to Tanzania on safari, Costa Rica to the rain /cloud forests , Oaxaca to learn the art of making Mole’ and to the sky to jump from a plane.
I love travel and hope to do more in the near future. Perhaps you would like to join me?

Volunteerism is important to me so I give a few hours of my time weekly helping women who have cancer and cannot manage on their own. I also volunteer with a few animal rescue groups and even started my own 15 years ago.

I would describe myself as a practical idealist; level headed and almost always looking for the upside in what happens in life. I enjoy good food and wine, movies, theater, museums, and dance performances. I am also an avid baseball fan, both A's and Giants.

I hope to have a long term relationship with a man who like me, would like it to be his last. I grew up in a loving and supportive family and know what it takes to be in a good relationship. I look forward to hearing from you.

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: A House in the Sky, The Language of Flowers, Awakening Joy, The Art of Fielding, Cutting for Stone, A Thousand Splendid Suns, The Art of Racing in the Rain, The Golem and the Jinni. My reading preferences are historical fiction-non fiction too.
The New Yorker and the Sunday Chronicle.

Movies: I have seen almost all of the ones that got Academy Award nominations.

I don't watch much TV but have recently gotten into Downton Abbey and Treme'. Sad that Breaking Bad is over. I watched that religiously.

Food: I enjoy most ethnic foods and a glass of good red wine a few times a week. Bread pudding and anything dark chocolate are my favorite desserts.

Music:Prefer Rock n Roll to Classical. Listen to Jazz too. Small venues to hear music. Loud and crowded concerts don't usually appeal but on occasions you'll find me at the Greek.
