I am colorful, melodic, and determined.

My Self-Summary

Music and theatre are the center of my life, so if you find those things unappealing or not worthwhile, than you'll definitely feel the same way about me.

I tend to be pretty up front about things, very little embarrasses me, and I'm not afraid to speak my mind.

I love to read and discover new music, and I can suddenly go on wild crafting sprees without notice. Few things delight me more than digging through thrift stores, antique shops and bargain basements. One of my philosophies on life is that nothing should ever be boring to the eye, so needless to say, I have a distinctive style.

Unlike most people on OkCupid, I admit that most of my personality awards are for the most part pretty accurate.

If you're old enough to be my dad please don't message me or add me to your favorites list. Let me repeat that, if you're old enough to be my dad DON'T MESSAGE ME OR ADD ME TO YOUR FAVORITES LIST! That just grosses me out.

Oh, and please, enough of the "you have a big nose" messages. Trust me, I know my nose is big, it's been on my face my entire life.

What I’m doing with my life

I just moved to Tempe from New York to get my Master's in Musical Theatre Performance with a concentration in Opera Performance. It's been quite a change; readjusting to the suburbs is way more difficult than adjusting to New York was!

If you live in the Phoenix area, guy or girl, say hello! I know absolutely no one here, so friends are welcome!

I’m really good at

Music.

Colors.

Saying inappropriate things.

Attracting every awkward, weird, creepy, and/or psychotic guy who walks into a bar (which is part of the reason I'm on OkCupid). I think it's the red hair.

The first things people usually notice about me

People usually notice my hair first off, it's red and curly and there's a lot of it.

My eyeshadow or clothing (I like bright colors, but nothing whore-ish.)

Past the physical things, I'm very independent and motivated- I never half-ass anything. I'm also not afraid to stand up for myself and what I believe in. If someone's screwing me over, I'm not going to take it. If some guy at work keeps rubbing up against me on purpose, I'm going to slam him up against the cook line.

Again, I'm not afraid to say anything, and have a black and sarcastic sense of humor, which isn't as widely accepted here as it is in New York. Another reason I'm having trouble adjusting.

I really love that under "similar users" someone named "electric boobs" comes up as "more pure" than me.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

My favorite books would have to be Breakfast of Champions, Everything is Illuminated, Insecure at Last, The Neuromancer, Boomsday, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay

I also love any plays by Nicky Silver.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch is my all time favorite movie. The Jerk, Little Miss Sunshine, and Waiting for Guffman all rank up there too. I hate, hate, HATE chick flicks. I think they are slowly ruining the minds and hearts of teenage girls and giving them unrealistic expectations of love and relationships. (I'm not bitter...)

So far as TV goes I love Weeds, Dexter, The Office, Project Runway, Southpark, Six Feet Under, The Colbert Report and The Daily Show.

Favorite music: Nellie McKay, Regina Spektor, Of Montreal, She and Him, The Dresden Dolls and Amanda Palmer, Cat Power, The World/Inferno Friendship Society, Lily Allen, The Divine Comedy, The New Pornographers, Yael Naim, Bjork, Kaki King, Cake, Nat King Cole, Joanna Newsom, Pink Martini, DeVotchka, Kate Nash, They Might Be Giants, Gogol Bordello, Radiohead, The Strokes, Tierney Sutton, Janis Joplin, Joni Mitchell, Faure, Poulenc, Debussy, Chopin, William Bolcom

I really wanted to post the video for Amanda Palmer's song "Oasis" here, because I think it's amazing, but OkCupid won't let me. So go watch it at Amanda Palmer "Oasis" Music Video from Amanda Palmer on Vimeo.
(Oh, and if you find that video offensive, we probably won't get along.)

I must admit, I'm a foodie. Working in the restaurant industry, especially in New York will do that to you. But then, I'm also from the South... (not redneck, farm South- City and Suburb South. I lived in Knoxville and outside of Nashville, TN for most of my life). Basically, I love trying anything new, but Southern cooking will always have a special place in my heart. Ranch grosses me out to the extreme. I would be a vegetarian if I didn't like meat so much.

The six things I could never do without

Music. (Duh.)

Color.

My new red Boston Terrier puppy. I wouldn't have made it through the drive from Houston to El Paso without him!

My Blackberry.

I'll be cheesy. My family and friends.

A shower.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Music.

Why didn't I pay more attention in Music Theory in undergrad????

What I'm going to wear today.

What I'm going to do with my life.

Why does that fat, balding construction worker find it appropriate to cat call me? (I have this fantasy of videotaping men cat calling women on the street and showing said tapes to their significant others.)

Are people really reading any of this? With some of the responses I've been getting, I'm starting to wonder...

On a typical Friday night I am

Working and then hanging out with friends.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

When I was a kid, I wanted to be Barbra Streisand (big-nosed girls unite!).

When I was in middle school, I wanted to be Sarah McLachlan. (I actually have a tattoo of one of her drawings.)

When I was in high school, I wanted to be Billie Holiday or Musetta in La Boheme.

When I was in college, I wanted to be Bernadette Peters.

Now I'm not quite sure what I want to be...

Back in February, an obnoxious drunk guy and his friends were being far too aggressive in trying to get my friend's number at a bar in the LES. They followed us outside, and I told them off. Less than half a block away I slipped on a random piece of plywood in the road and fell flat on my back. In trying to help me up, my friend stepped on my hair. The group of guys I told off saw the whole thing and proceeded to laugh hysterically. So yeah, I showed them. And I'm very smooth.

You should message me if

You're liberal, love the arts, and don't take yourself too seriously.

You can create coherent sentences and realize that spell check exists for a reason.

You're actually up for meeting a real person at some point and not just emailing forever.

You're NOT looking for a girl to pop out babies for you and be a housewife. (Though I do dress like a fifties housewife often, I don't want to be one.)

You don't have some preconceived notion of what you want in a relationship. I feel like a lot of people are only looking for something casual or only looking to get married, or only looking for a hook-up. I take life as it comes, if friendship is all that happens, that's great, if something more happens, that's great too. I'm open to everything pretty much, but I am not just looking for a one night stand.

Your profile pic is not of you and your ex-girlfriend, or you and your kids. My life is very fluid right now, and I honestly don't have time for anyone with extreme baggage.

Having a passion (it does not have to be arts related) is a necessity in a guy for me. Forwardness, intelligence, confidence, and humor are all big turn-ons for me as well.

I have a thing for guys with facial hair. From the eternal five o'clock shadow look, all the way to the full beard, I love it.

Socially and politically conservative guys need not apply. (Just in case you haven't figured that out on your own.)

Oh, if I don't respond to your email immediately, I'm either trying to let you off easy or I'm being ditzy and will realize I didn't respond but thought I did in about a week.

If you read all that, and it didn't scare you away.
