My self-summary
My family genes bestowed upon me the creative, free-thinking spirit of a graphic artist (my mom) and the logical, deep-thinking mind of an engineer (my dad); as a result, I have eclectic tastes and a deep appreciation for the arts, especially music. At the same time, my ever-inquisitive mind pushes me to ask questions, seek the truth -- I can't stand liars, cheats and people who look for the easy way out -- and attempt to fix things when they break. Plus I can skate (ice and roller), cook and play the drums. Sometimes all at once.

I'm into winter sports (skiing, snowboarding, ice hockey), all kinds of food (if you're nice, I'll make my award winning grilled cheese), lots of music (playing it, listening to it, watching it, experiencing it), British comedy, and have a soft spot for all animals.

I believe everyone has something to offer and I care a lot about the world we live in and what can be done to keep it from freezing/melting/exploding/being invaded by aliens or whatever apocalyptic event is on tomorrow's front page.

My journey has taken many twists and turns - some by my own choosing, others by circumstances way out of my control - but where it's led me now is one of the most exciting and rewarding places I've ever been. Life's ups and downs are something we all have to deal with, and I try to stay as balanced as possible and just enjoy the ride. If you feel the same, then we're off to a great start.

A wise man once told me "Enjoy today, love those around you, be kind to everyone, be an example for others to follow." Can't say I'm on point with all four every day, but I do make the effort.
What I’m doing with my life
A brainstorm I had a few years ago has evolved into an amazingly rewarding business at the intersection of the nonprofit and sports business worlds. I don't live for my work, but I thoroughly enjoy what I do - it's creative and fun, has connected me with some incredibly bright, talented and passionate people, and most importantly is having a tremendously positive impact on the world.

I also play drums in a funk & soul band, which keeps me sane, centered and very, very groovy.
I’m really good at
Asking Questions - if there's one thing I do know it's that I don't know everything.

Making Grilled Cheese - as alluded to earlier, I know enough moves in the kitchen to be dangerous. My grilled cheese skills won me a nifty trophy and my latest culinary creation is blueberry chipotle smoked chicken chili. Yes, I said blueberry chipotle and yes, it is amazing.

Staying Grounded - just my nature I guess, but I try to stay balanced and bring an open mind to every situation.

Taking Vacations - although I haven't had one in quite a while, I am a great traveler/explorer/seeker and have a long list of places I'd like to visit (Mt. Kilimanjaro is up next!). At the same time, I'm also a guy who is happy to sit his ass in a chair on the beach with a great book, a chilled adult beverage (fruit slice & tiny paper umbrella, please) and just chill out.
The first things people usually notice about me
...is that I'm not from LA, but they can't seem to place where. I've lived here for over 25 years, but I grew up just outside of New York City so I have a bit of shared perspective on the east coast/west coast thing. Maybe I could've mediated the rap war of the early 90's and we'd still have Biggie and Tupac?

Second would be my eyes. Green, same as my grandmother. And hers would sparkle in the right light. Don't know if mine do that - you'll have to let me know...
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Music is huge part of my life. I've been playing drums since age 13 and still play in a funk/soul band. I listen to a wide range of stuff, with a heavy dose of funk, soul, acid jazz, Stax-era r&b - artists like Greyboy Allstars, Soulive, New Mastersounds, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, Galactic, Breakestra, Mayer Hawthorne, Soulive. I also dig a lot of roots rock/alt country, alternative and indie rock, old school hip-hop, punk rock, 80's power-pop, 90's brit-pop and I love a good mash-up ("The Beastles" Beastie Boys vs The Beatles is an all-time favorite)

Books: Nuclear Jellyfish, Hammerhead Ranch Motel, The Climb Up To Hell, plus lots of bios, non-fiction and short-story compilations. I've always been a big fan of John Updike's stories.

I'm also hooked on the Snap Judgement story-telling podcasts. The Moth stories are great too, but I've been digging Snap lately on long drives.

Movies: Sherlock Holmes, Big Lebowski, The Thin Red Line, Traffic, Back to the Future, Blues Brothers, Fandango, Beverly Hills Cop, 48 Hours, Anchorman, Syriana, Usual Suspects, Snatch, Wall-E, Exit Through the Gift Shop

Food: I'm literally all over the map here, because I love food from around the world - Italian, Thai, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, Mexican, Indian - as well as all things BBQ, seafood, burgers, etc. I do eat healthy most of the time, but have a weakness for maple/bacon anything or a good cannoli.
The six things I could never do without
A Drum Set
My Dog
Snow (been seeing less of it every winter, which is sad)
Sunglasses
Ginger Beer (the spicy kind, that makes my nose twitch)
Optimism
I spend a lot of time thinking about
...how to not think too much and just "be."
On a typical Friday night I am
Every week is totally different for me, so every Friday follows suit. But the best Friday nights are when my band is playing, the drinks are flowing and booties are shakin'!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I miss my dog. He passed away recently, and since there isn't a "had dog" option in the profile I'm keep it as "has dog" as he's still around, to me at least.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 35–45
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
If you like live music and lively people; if you can teach me the Argentine Tango; if you have a basic understanding of what "icing" is in hockey.
