I'll be honest, I'm a bit of a hopeless romantic. I'm more than willing to date people as part of the process, but ultimately I want to form a real connection with someone. I take my relationships seriously, even the brief ones. So let's get a beer and see if we can make something of it!
I drive a quick, well-maintained VW that is a hobby all on its own. It takes me out of the city when I'm feeling restless. Winter is for skiing. Summer is for hiking, biking, kayaking, camping, and driving a little too fast on winding New England back roads. My tent sleeps two...snugly. :)
I'm adventurous in some ways, not in others. I don't break many laws. I don't always push myself outside of my comfort zone. I do ski some pretty steep stuff (but not quite the steepest). I do like getting my car just a little bit sideways in the snow. I've been whitewater rafting and hot air ballooning.
I am liable to slam the brakes in the middle of a busy road and jump out of my car to help a turtle across. I have a pet Russian Tortoise who might outlive me. My female friends say I should talk this up because it shows I'm not afraid of commitment.
I'm deliberate, introspective, and I like to write...hence the length of this thing. Sometimes I consider censoring myself so I don't come off too strong, but it never really works.
Occasionally I am elbows-deep in the engine compartment of my car. I'm not usually doing anything too impressive. But I find that if I get dirty enough, I almost look like I know what I'm doing.
I try to get outside when I can, but I fail at that goal more often than my profile might suggest. I've been getting out on my mountain bike more lately, which is punishing but fun. I'm looking forward to another good ski season - got new boots to break in!
One of the more worthwhile things I do on my lazy days is drink the best craft beer I can find. This happens a lot.
I watched The Last Samurai with friends recently, and I cried for much of the last 30 minutes of the film. There's more to my taste in movies than that, but that should give you an idea. Oh...I definitely saw The Force Awakens on the first weekend.
In my music rotation lately: Ryan Adams, The War on Drugs, Jenny Lewis, Tallest Man on Earth, Caspian, Wheat, Gregory Alan Isakov, alt-J, and one or two of what I call "pop guilty pleasures." Other everyday favorites: The National, David Bazan, Coldplay, Nada Surf, Rage Against the Machine, Bon Iver, and a shitload of Frank Zappa...inherited that from my Dad.
I love Mexican food. I make myself a burrito for dinner multiple times per week. Consequently, my mom calls me "Mr. Burrito." I eat a ton of other stuff too, don't worry. Oh, and I put hot sauce on everything. Including, of course, the burritos.
I don't read as much as I used to, but I love Fahrenheit 451, Ender's Game, Bill Bryson's books, and Tintin. My path back to becoming a regular reader will probably involve some good sci-fi novels.
You like sleeping in a tent.
You wonder why I take photos of trains.
You're intrigued by an engineer who is better at English than math.
You can tell me the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow.
You are the abovementioned John Deere 5400.
A profile this big and honest doesn't bother you.
