I've been in 3 or 4 long term relationships - lasting from 2 years to 16 years; the longer one being in my late 20's - early 40's. I think they're getting shorter as I get more clear on what I want and am willing to put up with.
I'm turning 60 this year, and find myself totally unwilling to subject myself to the idea that my life is anywhere near over, or that all kinds of wonderful things are now out of the question. One of my all time heroes (heroine) is Ruth Gordon of "Harold and Maude" fame; who happily trudged along for years and years with out much fanfare, and finally hit her stride and gained huge success well into her 70's.
That being said, I feel that I'm one of those who definitely has improved with age. The rough edges have been softened, the defensive attitude has been let go, and self righteous posturing has been given up for maturity, compassion, acceptance and tolerance.
I live in one of the more bucolic yet unknown pockets of New Jersey, in a beautiful converted Grist mill that I have coddled and loved for over 25 years. 2 dogs, 2 ducks and 3 housemates who help me keep up with the chores and the property taxes which have gone totally through the roof over the past couple of years! (...don't get me started!)
I work in the NYC a couple of days teaching as an adjunct in textile design. I still do some free lance work in the garment industry, developing beautiful knitted swatches for all kinds of different markets, although I would hardly call myself a "garmento"!
I've found that the hook-up APPS created by the advent of modern technology incredibly compelling and addictive. It's like being in 5 different Cruise Bars at the same time ....however, they're still just cruise bars.. some of which are really seedy! Hooking up with a hot number is great, finding out that he's in a "committed relationship" (trying hard not to judge), but what does that mean.. committed to fooling around? , or is strictly NSA ... all this spoils my dream of actually settling down with a guy and creating a life together, which I still believe is possible.
I joined this site mainly because I would like to try swimming in a cleaner pond.
