My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Ninja/youth mentor/crazy scientist... I approach life passionately and enthusiastically... A hunger for new experiences keeps my life exciting and fresh... I am a colorful, powerful, and creative super shero in search of a co-conspirator. At times I feel like a comic book character chasing one adventure after the next.

But honestly, I am a woman who has learned through my child how to love unconditionally. I have so much love to give, but I am patiently waiting for the right person to share my love with. I have loved before and I know I am destined to love again. In the meantime I will keep working on loving myself... love is a practice one gets better with over time.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Attempting to find balance in my career as a middle school biology teacher, keeping life inspirational and unpredictable, exercising to stay strong, flexible, and agile, and saving up for a move to the tropics one day...

I work hard to stay healthy, eat healthy, and cook healthy foods. I enjoy gardening and bringing garden fresh veggies and herbs into my kitchen. One of my biggest accomplishments is raising a son who has NEVER eaten any fast foods and honestly and truly does not like processed sugar! I try to teach my students the same, but that is much more difficult.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Reading between the lines and snowboarding...
Traveling to all corners of the earth on my own...
Snuggling...
Appreciating and creating artistic spaces...
Cooking deliciously wholesome organic vegetarian dishes...
Raising plants, dogs, and reptiles...
Camping...
Teaching and learning (the best teachers are lifelong learners)...
Taking to the stage and speaking confidently...
Making a spectacle of myself when I am practicing my ninja kicks at Lake Merritt!
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My style and flair, and long curly hair, dimpled smile, big brown eyes and, well... my biceps

MUSIC! What an important part of my life.
I am a tried and true roots and culture mama
My other favorite music these days includes Afro/Latino Reggae and Hip Hop (so much flavor!) and Local Oakland and Bay Area Hip Hop... consciousness is a must! I am very mindful of the lyrics I choose to fill my psyche with.
My FAVORITES are: Los Rakas (Panama/Oakland), Ana Tijox (Chile), Fidel Nadal (Argentina), Chocquibtown (Colombia), Las Orishas (Cuba), The Coup (Oakland), Zion I (Oakland), Alika (Uruguay/Argentina), Dead Prez (NYC), Ladi6 (NZ)

I dabble in poetry as well -- if you are lucky I will share one with you one day... One of my favorite poems:

Phenomenal Woman
by Maya Angelou

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
my sun
the sun
health
energizing food
clean, refreshing drinking water, oceans, lakes, and waterfalls
my dogs
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
LOVE...

My tropical dream getaway...
My dream and goal is to live in a tropical place, with warm, deeply turquoise water full of life and sea creatures...
I look forward to the day when I can begin building my bamboo palace, complete with hammocks, an organic garden, iguanas, and monkeys...
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
In the springtime... walking the dogs at sunset, watering the garden, cooking up some food and sipping some wine.

Another option might be rocking a stylin fit and some heels for dinner and dancing... (I clean up real nice and enjoy having an excuse to do so!)

When it's winter... watching the weather reports and deciding if I should load up the gear and dogs for a weekend snow excursion...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I find melanin extremely sexy... if the summer sunshine brings out the cinnamon or chocolate tones... I will salivate.

As a highly competitive and successful woman of color in the sciences, I have had to deal with much racism and sexism in my life. I had to fight my way through a Eurocentric patriarchal system to get where I am today. If you are white, you must be very comfortable and well versed in discussing white privilege and making distinct efforts to use your privilege for the betterment of society. I am also very uncomfortable in all white environments, and if we can't crack jokes together about that, it'll never work.

You are cerebral, sharp, and witty... I love a man who pushes me intellectually...

... And you have graduated from your 20's... Sorry young gentlemen, I know I look young, but I need a full grown man with life experience.... Even if you are hella cute, I'm gonna have to hold out for someone closer to my age.
