I am Intelligent, Sarcastic, and Witty.
My Self-Summary
I think it’s fair to say that most people are hesitant to write
about themselves, talk about who they are, try and define their
personalities in mere words. However, I have no trouble coming up
with things to say for this section. The only problem is trying not
to write too much.
My friends have often classified me as a thinker, and I suppose
that’s as good a description as anything I can come up with on my
own. I’m always thinking, planning things out and making to-do
lists, from simple lists of chores to get done over the weekend to
a running schedule organized around which running events I’ve
decided to do that year. I read a lot of books, some of which are
based around my scholastic interests of Psychology and Philosophy,
but mostly what I read are books that I like and find interesting,
like all of those that are listed a few sections down (and many
more, but I'm trying to keep my profile on the small side).
I’m a runner. Not by nature, but by choice. Started doing it in Jr
High (I was forced, I'll admit it), and just haven’t really ever
stopped. Mostly I do 5k, 12k and half-marathon races, but I’ve
finished one marathon so far, and I’m hoping to do more in the
future. One of these days I'll muster up the motivation to do a
triathlon too. When I’m not out running I also enjoy going for a
swim at the gym (or in a lake if one is available), hiking,
kayaking, tent camping, and riding my bike (either around town or
on the Foothills Trail through Orting). I’ll also admit to a
not-so-secret love for Badminton….yep, it’s a sweet sport, and
everybody knows it.
Whether it’s with my exercising or reading books and going to
school, I’m always striving to better myself, and improve my
capabilities. However, I do enjoy a bit of pointless fun by playing
video games on my PS2, computer, and nintendo DS.
What I’m hoping to find out here in the internet is somebody who
might share some of my interests and passions, and who likes
interesting conversation. I love to listen just as much as I like
to share my own thoughts, and I’d be delighted if I could find
somebody who fits that bill.
What I’m doing with my life
In about a week I will be done with my undergrad studies and will
possess a BA in Psychology. My next goal is to get a Master's
Degree in Psychology, so I can eventually be a therapist. I also
want to teach Philosophy in some capacity, because I love both
topics equally. Right now I'm a desk jockey for MultiCare doing
data entry, because it pays the bills.
I’m really good at
Even though I don't necessarily agree with this assessment, most
people think I write very well. All of my teachers have commented
on it at some point or another, and my friends and family members
have made similar comments when they've read my livejournal.
The first things people usually notice about me
Since I've never met myself for the first time, I had to harass
some of my friends to figure out what to put here. The responses
were a bit varied, but the two basic responses were my sense of
humor and my sense of self-confidence.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Food: Sushi, anything involving pasta, seafood, sandwiches (I
customize my own thanks to spending money at Safeway)
Music: I listen to music when I run and in my car, which mostly
ends up being dance music (techno, house, trance, etc) with the
occasional heavy metal interlude (metallica, tool, nine inch nails,
etc).
Books: A lot of what I read is science fiction and general fiction,
like Neil Gaiman's books Neverwhere, American Gods, Isaac Asimov's
Foundation Series, The Gods Themselves, or Lewis Carroll's Through
the Looking Glass. But I also enjoy non-fiction and non-science
fiction, like Lucky, The Lovely Bones, Stiff, Life of Pi, or The
Omnivore’s Dilemma. I'm also a big nerdy fan of reading books about
physics, like Stephen Hawking's The Universe in a Nutshell and A
Brief History of Time, along with Brian Greene's The Elegant
Universe and The Fabric of the Cosmos. I also really enjoy reading
books written by Richard Dawkins, like Unweaving the Rainbow and
The God Delusion.
Movies: A Clockwork Orange, Airplane!, Boondock Saints, Brewster's
Millions, Dark City, Dogma, Donnie Darko, Fight Club, Galaxy Quest,
Hot Fuzz, Matchstick Men, Ocean's Eleven, Slumdog Millionaire,
Pan's Labyrinth, Primer, Spirited Away, Stranger than Fiction, The
Princess Bride, The Usual Suspects, Wallace & Gromit, Final
Fantasy: Advent Children, The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, Kill Bill
1&2, Star Wars (all 6 parts), The Day the Earth Stood Still
(original). I'll watch almost anything, as long as the plot can
hold itself together.
TV: Not an original category, but it still counts. Criminal Minds,
Life, Burn Notice, Lie to Me, Heroes, Chuck, Top Gear, Doctor Who,
Torchwood, Family Guy, The Daily Show, Futurama, Farscape, Comedy
Central Presents, Star Trek, The Universe, and a wide variety of
documentaries from the BBC, Nova, PBS, and the History
Channel.
I'm also a HUGE fan of Jeff Dunham and Mitch Hedberg. I like a lot
of comedians, but those two top the list, and I could watch/listen
to their stuff all day long and never get tired of it.
The six things I could never do without
1. My running shoes
2. Socks (they prevent blisters!)
3. My laptop (dude, I totally got a Dell)
4. Mint Floss (I really like apples, but the apple bits often get
stuck in your teeth)
5. Pencil and paper
6. My glasses, because without them the world becomes rather blurry
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Trying to figure out an effective running schedule (and the
motivation to stick to it)
Whatever book I happen to be reading at the time
Class homework
Existentialist issues; why are we here, is there a point to it all,
etc etc
How the mind works
On a typical Friday night I am
Fridays involve me doing my grocery shopping, and then watching
some movies while I eat dinner and play with my cat. It sounds
drab, I know, but I enjoy my relaxation time when I can get it.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I have an irrational fear of falling through those grates that are
in sidewalks. Manholes too.
When I was younger I was terrified of the dark, but I've gotten
over that.
You should message me if
If you've read this far, you should send me a message. I'm normal
(whatever that means), nice (or so the voices tell me), and an open
book to anyone wanting to ask something.
