My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Things I like: real honest-to-god belly laughs, biking for exercise as well as transportation, photography (appreciating and doing), doing a couple of camping/backpacking trips a year (not a dealbreaker if you're not into this; I have friends I go with), parentheses (apparently), the unexpected joyful squawks of the wild San Francisco parrots, woodworking classes, craft beers, the smell of the Sierras in the summer, and sharp, incisive comedy (Louis C.K., George Carlin, Chris Rock...). I suppose that sums me up about as well as anything.

I'm pretty attracted to people that have a science background but also have a predilection to creative pursuits. Getting the hands dirty is hot!

I have been to a real live Vodou ceremony in Haiti and I've been personally yelled at by Siegfried in a hotel (Roy was there, but chose to continue quietly eating his breakfast). I've also been hit on by a self-appointed Daddy Bear at Suppenkuche, much to my friends' amusement (and my own, to be honest).

Life has been good to me and I'm grateful for that - time to find someone to share it all with. Hopefully you're in a good place in your life these days, too.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Mainly, keeping it simple. Low drama and a focus on what really matters: family, friends, good food, fresh air and exercise, and abiding by the golden rule.

Making or modifying my furniture (I have a few pieces I rescued from the street and then customized to suit my space/tastes).

Keeping my tortoise in fresh veggies.

I'm just returning to San Francisco from a few months away. This included a trip to Vietnam and Cambodia, a stunning roadtrip through the Southwest U.S. and a good month plus soaking in the Colorado summer weather with my family.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Wry humor. Getting animals to let me pet 'em. Handy, around-the-house stuff. Simpsons quotes. Making guacamole. Well-timed jokes? Someone just told me that last one last weekend, so I'm going with it.

Things I'm not so good at: trip planning (I tend to just buy the tickets or get in the car and plan on the fly - yes, this can cause problems occasionally - perhaps this is where you can assist?); non-food shopping; computery stuff; coming up with lists when prompted.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
That I've apparently photoshopped out the prison tats in my okcupid pics.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
BOOKS: I spend more time with the periodicals, typically - the New Yorker, National Geographic (if only for the photography sometimes) and various online news stuff. Favorite author these days is Cormac McCarthy. I also like Sedaris and Klosterman

MOVIES: The Big Lebowski, Delicatessen, Exit Through the Gift Shop, Baraka, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Run Lola Run, The Constant Gardener, Apocalypse Now, Requiem For a Dream, Rushmore, No Country for Old Men, Black Swan, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, WALL-E, Repo Man, The Bourne Identity trilogy. Directors: Jean Pierre Jeunet, Werner Herzog, Darren Aronofsky, the Coen Brothers, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Kathryn Bigelow, Guy Ritchie, Guillermo del Toro and Terry Gilliam. I do love movies...

MUSIC: Lots, but I favor mainly rock and folkish stuff. Things like this, if for no other reason than the raw energy of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1l5BM31llg
I probably should go to the symphony once in a while... date idea? Recent favorites are Mike Doughty, Deltron, Townes Van Zandt, First Aid Kit

FOOD: Lots. Mission Beach Cafe breakfast, Limon Rotisserie everything, Little Chihuahua tostada salad and pozole. Recchiuti dark chocolate, winter squashes, summer stone fruits, really REALLY sharp cheddar, Manila mangoes, olives, bagels & lox & capers. I'm a carnivore who cooks the occasional vegan dinner.

PODCASTS: I just recently got into these. Comedy Bang Bang, WTF, and Car Talk are my favorites.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Quality time with friends and family (this usually includes good food and lots of laughter). Bikes. Sunday morning reading over coffee. Making stuff. Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. The Great Outdoors.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Politics, social norms, angles (not angels). Why are people from Glasgow called Glaswegians? What the hell is wrong with the Republicans? How things go together and come apart. What's with all the neck tattoos?
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Well, last night I went to the indiefest roller disco.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I just acquired my first TV since college. It's only for movies, I swear!
