hilarious, confused, and nonstandard
My self-summary Propose an edit
I constantly float between the deadpan, the sarcastic, the goofy and the absurd.
I think too much and talk too much. Unless I'm with someone to whom
I just can't think of what to say, which happens every now and
again. I am trying to learn the art of when to talk and when to
shut up. I love to listen about as much as I love to talk though, I
think I'm just a sucker for good conversation.
I will talk about pretty much anything, and I even know what I'm
talking about some of the time.
I love European philosophy, Bostonian sports, highbrow art, lowbrow
comedy. I love articulate intelligence and impassioned idiocy. I am
a music nerd to most of my friends, but probably a dilettante to
gigantic music nerds. It's still one of the things I think about
most, though.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
Freelance web design/development. Getting out of the apartment
every now and then.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
I'm really more of a jack of all trades, master of none type of
guy. Some of the trades which I jack include guitar, ukulele, programming, fencing (lapsed), geeking out about
music, movies, TV shows, or other cultural artifacts, and coming up
with bizarre syntax that hopefully gets my point across, but
doesn't quite make sense (for example, the phrase 'the trades which
I jack' that I threw into this sentence earlier). I also provide
comedy to the masses, where 'the masses' are defined as the people
I'm talking with.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
Probably the shaved head. It's an attention grabber, looks-wise.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
Books:
Some authors I like include Terry Pratchett, Kurt Vonnegut,
Douglas
Adams, Nick
Hornby, David Sedaris, a shit ton of
European philosophers including Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Camus, Sartre, that asshole Nazi genius
Heidegger. I've
been on a big Chuck Klosterman kick lately,
and I've also been reading graphic novels (shit, no need to be
fancy, comic books), with some of my favorites being Scott Pilgrim and
Y: The
Last Man. I also finally got around to reading Sandman.
Movies:
Some of the all time chart toppers for me are This Is Spinal Tap,
Rushmore,
Princess
Bride, Clue,
High
Fidelity, Stop Making Sense, Big Fish, The Big Lebowski,
Donnie Darko
(wow, just like everybody!), Eternal
Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Royal Tennenbaums,
pretty much all the Pixar flicks, anything by Don Hertzfeldt, I <3
Huckabees. Children of Men knocked me on my
ass a few days ago as I finally got to see it, I need to see it a
few more times before it really hits this list.
Music:
I listen to a bunch of everything, mostly indie rock type stuff but
plenty of jazz and rap and country and folk and even some
electronic twiddling but not much. Anyone who tells you their taste
is "eclectic" but also says they like "anything but rap and
country" is not to be trusted.
http://www.last.fm/user/Relaxatorium/ is the best place to find out
exactly what I listen to, if you really care about that sort of
thing. I'll take this list of top 50 straight from there, which
give a pretty decent picture.
Modest Mouse,
The
Dismemberment Plan, Talking Heads, The Decemberists,
Queens of the Stone Age, Mike Doughty, They Might Be
Giants, Beck, Soul Coughing, Phish, The Magnetic
Fields, The Flaming Lips, Radiohead, Sufjan Stevens, Built to Spill,
Andrew Bird,
The Beatles, Ben
Folds, Ben Folds Five, CAKE, The Hold Steady, Neutral Milk
Hotel, The New Pornographers, Mission of Burma, R.E.M.,
Of Montreal,
Pixies, Ted Leo and The Pharmacists, The Kleptones, Elliott Smith,
Minutemen, Guster, The Shins, Blur, The Arcade Fire, The Streets,
Clap Your Hands Say
Yeah!, Aimee Mann, The Thermals, Fountains of Wayne,
Blackalicious, Wolf Parade,
Dispatch, Tom Lehrer, Belle and Sebastian, Death Cab for Cutie, Ben
Kweller, Faith No More, Harvey Danger, Semisonic
Food:
I'm a sucker for a good burger or sammich, Indian food (mmmm,
samosas curries and vindaloos, along with the divine Matar Paneer),
and Chinese food (the bullshit kind that is sold in America, moreso
than actual Chinese food).
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
My friends (because they make everything else worth using or
doing), my guitars
(for rocking and singing to myself, sometimes even others), a
computer (for interfacing with large portions of the universe),
spring after winter, my brain (for generating ideas and hilarity),
a sixth thing of some sort.
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
My impending future, my current projects, geekery musical, philosophical or
general. Women, of course, as they just keep being all sorts of
interesting and sexy and such, which makes it hard to not think
about them.
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Hanging out friends and random hangers on at some weird event I've
helped organize for them.
Or just chilling, talking and/or drinking.
Often both.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
Dunno, nothing much really, By definition, I am not particularly
willing to admit private things in public. Try asking in, I dunno,
private if you really feel like you need to know something.
You should message me if Propose an edit
If you are entertaining.
If you do awesome things in Pittsburgh that I should know about
and/or attend.
AIM name is DStern5420, it was created back in the days before I
realized those names were supposed to be interesting at all.
