I'm educated (MA in English), but I'm currently waiting tables at a fine dining establishment until I can find my perfect teaching position at a college. I have taught for a few years part-time, but it pays insultingly low. I love food and wine, so while it isn't my first choice of profession, it is satisfying. It also means I work some nights.
I'm extremely independent. I traveled to France for an entire month all by myself. I loved every second of it. Traveling alone allows you to experience things that traveling in groups doesn't allow. You actually meet the people, experience the culture. I realized from this trip that while I like traveling with friends and loved ones, nothing compares to the experience of being dropped in a place alone and having to find your footing.
I may be 33, but I'm not 60. I won't wear turtlenecks and pearls. I like my curves and like to show them off. I know how to be appropriate and all my partner's family/friends have always loved me. But I'm not going to dress like an old lady just because I've hit 30.
I don't play games. Come on. We are in our 30s. I won't pretend to have plans when I don't just because I think you want me to play hard to get. If I have plans, I won't ditch my friends for you. But if you call last minute and I actually don't have anything to do, sure, I'll meet up.
I'm bawdy and perverse. I like to think those are some of my better qualities.
This is where I should add: couples, fuck off. You won't be the exception.
I love to craft and its totally dorky, but I love it. I knit, I dehydrate my own spices, I make my own juices (hey, they make the best vodka mixers!).
Speaking of dorky, I love SciFi movies. I have a special place in my heart for anything Joss Whedon. I will rewatch the Firefly series yearly.
I don't want kids. I'd much rather have a big ol' backyard with lots of rescue dogs.
I love good food and wine, but I can get down with wings and cheap beer. I'm pretty versatile.
I'm pretty silly/sarcastic/generally funny, although sometimes unintentionally. I'm ok laughing at myself. I have my "blonde moments." I love to laugh; I'm one of those obnoxiously happy people most of the time. Maybe not obnoxiously, but I find its much easier to just let shit go then hang on to it. One of my close friends recently dubbed me as the smartest adorably innocent person they have ever met. I have no street smarts. The last time I was in Mexico I actually paid a vendor more than the painting was worth because I didn't want to fee like I was cheating them.
My next trip will either be to Poland to research family history or to Thailand to eat my face off. ;)
I'm not a morning person. If you try to wake me up at 7am on a Sunday you will meet the worst side of me. Oh, I do love mimosas and brunch though! :).
I love watching the Philadelphia Eagles! Yes, I will date you if you're a fan of another NFC East team, but I will talk shit (and expect you to give it right back to me)!
I can be quite shy at times. I try to force myself not to be!
I'm usually not interested in uber preppy people. I like some rough edges. If you use "4" for the word "for" or shorten "you" to "u" we probably won't get along. I like words.. full words. ;)
I think/hope I've given you a good insight into my personality. I'm pretty much an open book; if you have questions, feel free to ask.
Also, I'm a pretty good cook. I can't bake to save my life, but I can cook. I dabble occasionally with veganism, but I do it for the challenge of cooking good food, not because being vegan is sustainable for me.
And I guess since my MA is in literature, specifically Native American literature, I'm a good reader. I try not to be snobby about it, but every once in awhile the academic in me gets a bit snarky. Its rare, but it happens. Perhaps I'm admitting a flaw as well as something I'm good at. ;)
of the Butterflies" by Julia Alvarez. A close second is "The Lone
Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven" by Sherman Alexie. I did get
sucked into the Sookie Stackhouse novels because vampires are hot.
Currently, I'm using Anna Karenina as a paper weight, but hope to
upgrade to reading it one of these days. ;)
Movies: My movie tastes are a bit questionable. I rationalize it
out by saying that since I like smart books I have to equal it out
with dumb movies. No romantic comedies, mind you. More like.. crazy
mindless action and adventure flicks. Don't judge me, but my
favorite movie of all time is "Blade." I like anything vampire,
including "Let the Right One In," which is foreign and subtitled
but still awesome. I can watch the scene from "Dumb and Dumber"
with the ketchup and mustard 100 times in a row and still be
laughing hysterically the 100th time. I can quote most of "Empire
Records." I love Disney/Pixar flicks too, especially Wall*E and Toy
Music: Fairly broad tastes that stop short of country. I love
female singers with pretty voices. Typically NPR is on in my car
though. I've been known to be driving down the highway bawling
while listening to Dick Gordon's The Story. lol.
Food: I'm a foodie. Love to cook and try new things. I am happiest when I'm preparing a multi-course meal for a dinner party!
You're confident in yourself. I like people who know what they want. Don't "wink" with the generic OKC message. Has that ever worked? Take a chance and actually say 'hi.' I'm really pretty sweet. If you don't proposition me for sex right off the bat, I'll probably respond. ;)
Also, if you've read my profile. Example of failed email: "u are cute would u like to grab a beer sometime?" "u" is a deal breaker!!
