My Self-Summary
I am a Discordian, and a Wiccan. I hold a great deal of interest in the things that people believe, as it tends to detail a great deal about an individual.
I am also married to a wonderful woman. We are a happily married polyamorous couple. We both play and have sexual friends apart from each other, in an open and honest relationship that we are quite committed to. That being said, I'm looking for friends first. If we both decide that we want to have something beyond that, then my wife will be quite happy to let us do what we wish.
I've been involved in the martial arts for the last 19 years. I've also been a drummer for the last 21 years.
And now, just because I wanted to include these... here are some of my favorite quotes from authors and other people I like...
"If organized religion is the opium of the masses, then disorganized religion is the marijuana of the lunatic fringe."
"So this Zealot comes to my door, all glazed eyes and clean reproductive organs, asking me if I ever think about God. So I tell him I killed God. I tracked God down like a rabid dog, hacked off his legs with a hedge trimmer, raped him with a corncob, and boiled off his corpse in an acid bath. So he pulls an alternating-current taser on me and tells me that only the Official Serbian Church of Tesla can save my polyphase intrinsic electric field, known to non-engineers as "the soul." So I hit him. What would you do?"
"If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced."
"Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. I did an original sin. I poked a badger with a spoon."
"Beekeepers, yes… They've gotta want to be – "I want to be a beekeeper! I wanna keep bees! Don't wanna let them get away; I wanna keep them! They have too much freedom … I want bees on elastic, so when they get pollen, they come back here! My father was a beekeeper before me, his father was a beekeeper before him; I wanna walk in their footsteps … and their footsteps were like this: [running wildly from imaginary bees] 'Aaargh! I'm covered in bees! Aah! Covered in bees!"
What I’m doing with my life
I've also joined several local groups lately, I suppose this would be a good place to list them.
I'm a member of the local Columbus Polyamory group, where we meet once a month and talk about the issues and joys of the poly lifestyle.
I am a staff member of a group called AIS (Adventures In Sexuality) which is a pansexual, polyamory, BDSM/kink fun group, dedicated to providing a safe space for people to talk and play.
I've also become a member of a Sci-Fi fandom group who likes to spend their time playing quidditch, watching anime and Sci-Fi shows, meeting up for food and geeky discussions, and generally being silly.
I’m really good at
The first things people usually notice about me
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
In music I like just about anything that isn't country/western, I tend to listen to a lot of Himsa, Ween, Callenish Circle, 7 Seconds of Love, Marilyn Manson, Green Day, Regina Spektor, Daft Punk, Korn, The Aquabats, just about anything Ska or Punk really, Bad Religion, 311, Lords of Acid, Barenaked Ladies, A Perfect Circle, Primus, Tool, and Led Zeppelin to name a few. I enjoy music a lot, and I refuse to be tied to only one genre or small selection of artists. I'm quite eclectic.
Movies I tend to go for my favorite actors a lot, Eddie Izzard, Jack Black, Helena Bonham Carter, Edward Norton, Christina Ricci, Rachel Weisz, Clive Owen, Benicio Del Toro, Samuel L. Jackson, Parker Posey, Quentin Tarantino, Steve Buscemi, Hugo Weaving, Johnny Depp, Natalie Portman, Uma Thurman, Ewan McGregor, Janeane Garofalo, and many others...
I suppose I could list some of my favorite movies too though. The Big Lebowski, A Clockwork Orange, Fight Club, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Iron Man, Dr. Strangelove: or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, Being John Malkovich, Princess Bride, Donnie Darko, The Crow, Kill Bill, Shortbus, Smoke Signals, Officespace, Once Upon A Time In China, Big Trouble In Little China, Repo! The Genetic Opera, V for Vendetta, Willow, The Usual Suspects, Sean of the Dead, and many more...
I'm also a huge fan of anything Tim Burton and Kevin Smith have ever done.
TV I don't tend to watch a lot of, and the few shows I want to watch I usually end up catching up with online... those shows would be Doctor Who, Smallville, The Venture Brothers, Supernatural, Swingtown, Dollhouse, Dexter, 24, Torchwood, House M.D., True Blood, and Heroes. That at least covers what's still on the air anyway. For those things not still on the air, Firefly, Buffy, Angel (yes, I'm a Joss fan), Dead Like Me, Carnivale, Coupling, The L Word, Weeds, The Dead Zone, Wonderfalls, West Wing, Twin Peaks, X-Files (are you sensing the sci-fi theme yet?), and Battlestar Galactica to name some.
I'm also a huge anime fan.
My favorite food would be chicken fettachinni alfredo. Although it's rare that I find something I don't enjoy. Food is a very excellent thing.
The six things I could never do without
games (video games, board games, card games, and the like), green living things, thought, good friends, sex, books
Particularly silly list
masks, dragons, honey, Jack Skellington, wolves, and vampires
Favorite deities
Eris, Buddha, Coyote, Raven, Sun Wukong, Kokopeli
Vastly important list
My wife Hydy, my good friends, love, sex, music, laughter
I spend a lot of time thinking about
On a typical Friday night I am
Typical things to join people for would include just hanging out, gaming (with paper and dice), Munchkin, Other card games, Movies, Settlers of Catan (and the various and sundry expansions, seafarers, spacefarers, etc), video games (any and all), snuggling, sex, dancing, Rock Band, drinking, and a vast array of other things that people might come up with.
I have joined up with the Columbus Area Boardgaming Society, so on at least two of my Friday nights per month, I might be with them playing board games well into the night.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
This of course doesn't mean I'm nearly as promiscuous as I would enjoy being, but my loving wife does let me play a bit, both with and without her.
Recently, Tristan Taormino wrote a book called "Opening up: A Guide to Creating and Sustaining Open Relationships" which takes on the subject in a healthy, adult manner. If you would like to know more about polyamory, that book might be a good place to start.
