I am adventurous, simplistic, and out of adjectives.

My Self-Summary

I was trying to think of a really creative way to begin this but unfortunately creativity seems to have escaped me at the moment. So I'll just start off by saying that I'm a laid-back guy who enjoys the simple things in life. I could also say that I'm grounded, honest, drama-resistant, loyal, confident, funny and even a bit snarky when appropriate. However, that would just be my own opinion and although I believe these things to be true, it's all subjective.

What I can say objectively is that I'm definitely a jeans and t-shirt kind of guy. I love nature and I'm really in my element when I'm outdoors. My friends and family are my life and I would do anything for them. I believe very strongly in helping others and that is not limited to only those who I know. I love animals but don't have any at the moment. I enjoy sharing information and teaching people how to do things that I'm passionate about. I prefer sandals over shoes. And I prefer no sandals over sandals. And lately I've been wearing Sanuk Sidewalk Surfers which are the offspring of a sandal and a shoe.

While I have many interests, you will always see an ear to ear smile on my face when I'm surfing, snowboarding, hiking, backpacking, camping, climbing, urban exploring or traveling. I'm almost always willing to try something new, at least once anyway. But it's not always about scaling mountains or carving through fresh powder. I also enjoy listening to music, reading, educating myself, watching movies, spending time with family and friends, good conversation, banana pancakes, sleeping in and wikipedia...the simple things in life. There is also something to be said for a rainy day spent relaxing on the couch wrapped in a warm blanket. When it's spent with someone you really care about, then it's that much better!

My background is in art direction and graphic design but after working for different ad agencies and corporations for many years, I decided it was time for a change. I now work for an event planning firm as an event specialist. It's definitely a change but I do still get to be sort of creative in a more analytical and research-oriented way. Aside from my full-time job, I still take on freelance work which consists of graphic and web design so all of my creativity is not lost on microsoft office. Since you will probably ask anyway; sure, you can see my website.

I love to travel and have pretty much been all over this country as well as Western Europe, Central America, Mexico and Canada. Aside from the thrill that I get from exploring different lands, I especially like exploring different cultures as I'm fascinated by the way that others live. My favorite trip so far has been backpacking through the rainforest and surfing the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. As you can probably tell, my idea of seeing another country does not consist of sitting in the local cantina; I can do that here. I also travel a good amount within the continental United States on a fairly consistent basis. With many of the things that I enjoy doing, travel is pretty much a necessity.

Some have said that I have a passion for life; I like that.

EdiHoney says, "I met SoulSurfer years ago on a hike. Since then we have had so many adventures together. He is the biggest explorer, LOVES pushing himself to his limits, and dolphins seem to follow him around when he is in the ocean :-) He is a great guy who is passionate about life and nature. I am lucky to be his friend!"

What I’m doing with my life

I'm on a never-ending quest to discover, learn, and enjoy the things that are in fact...life.

UPDATE: I have made the decision to take my never-ending quest back to school to study foreign language. I chose this drastic change for several reasons. One of which is obviously because I am fascinated by other cultures and their native languages. More importantly, this will allow me to accomplish my life goal of traveling and living abroad for extended periods of time.

I’m really good at

I'm pretty good at most endeavors but I wouldn't say that I'm great at any one in particular. I've become quite accustomed to the obscurity of upper mediocrity and I'm good with that.

However, if I had to list something then I would say that I'm really good at being a friend. I'm especially good at listening and not judging. I can also empathize very well.

I can say what I'm NOT good at and that would be cooking. I do okay when I have epicurious open in front of me but even then it's a crap shoot. I still have fun trying though.

On a separate note, I do make a kick-ass sous chef. ;)

The first things people usually notice about me

Well, physically I've been told it's me peepers. I apparently have big child-like eyes and really long eyelashes. If we're talking personality, then I would say it's the fact that I'm very confident (but not arrogant).

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Darkly Dreaming Dexter (The Dexter Series), Surfers Code, In Search of Captain Zero, Cosmic Banditos, West of Jesus, The Sookie Stackhouse Series, American Psycho, The Hellbound Heart, Where the Wild Things Are

Movies: Step Into Liquid, Zen & Zero, Riding Giants, The Endless Summer, A Brokeback Melody, Anything by Warren Miller, Indiana Jones, Donnie Darko, Layer Cake, The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things, Slumdog Millionaire, Shaun of the Dead, The Lost Boys, The Warriors

Television: Dexter, True Blood, John from Cincinnati, Nurse Jackie, Bored to Death, Six Feet Under, Carnivale, Dark Shadows, Dead Like Me, American Gothic, Twin Peaks, Survivorman

I generally like programs that aren't afraid to challenge the viewer to think. I do like reality television but not the "yell at people in the kitchen" kind. I'm more into the "surviving in the wild" or "solving a crime" type. I really like A&E, Discovery, History, FUEL, HGTV and TLC.

Music: I'm very passionate about music and rather than try to explain my musical tastes, it would make more sense for me to list some bands that make a more frequent appearance on my playlist. Bands such as: Jack Johnson, Bob Marley, Lee Perry, Matt Costa, Jane's Addiction, Weezer, Huun Huur Tu, Franz Ferdinand, 30 Seconds to Mars, Santogold, Hooverphonic, Massive Attack, Social D, Breaking Benjamin, Kings of Leon, Rise Against, The Clash, The Cult, The Cure, Sisters of Mercy, Peter Murphy and Talking Heads.

Food: I'm quite the foodie and love most cuisines so that would be really tough to try to expand on. I especially like Indian, Mediterranean, Japanese, Peruvian and Mexican. I definitely don't eat fast food with the exception of Bojangle's sweet tea and boberry biscuits. I absolutely loooooove medium amber maple syrup from the Maple Museum in Vermont.

The six things I could never do without

Friends, family, love and understanding obviously go without saying and although I'm sure I could live without the following, I'm going to go with:

1. the ocean
2. the mountains
3. my quiver (of boards)
4. my backpack
5. my passport
6. my car

Sidenote: The car is simply to get to places that I cannot get to otherwise. I do believe in carpooling and public transportation and most of the time my longboard is how I get around on land.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Where the hell my sunglasses are.
What I'm going to attempt to make for dinner.
Better ways to talk without speaking.

On a typical Friday night I am

What is the fascination with Friday nights? It's just another night. With that said, it's really hard to say because there is no "typical" Friday night for me. It could really be anything from traveling to my next adventure to relaxing on my couch and anything in between. But just like everyone else on here I'm usually with my friends.

You should message me if

you feel like we have at least a few things in common and you're not afraid to get a little dirty. If you prefer to spend your time at high-end clubs that have VIP lists or you put on makeup before you go to the gym, I hate to say it but we probably won't have very much in common. On the other side of the coin, if you own a pair of hiking boots, like road trips and are open to trying new things then we will probably get along very well.
