I love all sorts of music, and love going to hear new music live.
And music outside. Too many bands to list, but I've gone through
phases where I've seen live music more than once a week (not
currently, but I still love a good show). Lately I'm particularly
into jazz and Indian music. I love going out dancing to great DJs
too. Recent and upcoming shows include my love, Trey Anastasio, and
a super groovy weird jazz trio called the The Bad Plus.
Books (some old favorites): Magic of the Ordinary, Everything is
Illuminated, Poisonwood Bible, The Cosmic Serpent, The Botany of
Desire, On the Road, The Alchemist, Travels with Charley, The
Namesake, The Monkey Wrench Gang, Skinny Legs and All, The Spirit
Catches You and You Fall Down, Cat's Eye, historical fiction,
travel books, atlases..
More recently, I've noticed that I am pretty excited about
post-apocolyptic novels (Margaret Atwood's books, the Hunger Games,
the Road). There's something about that beautiful seed of humanity
in a really dark situation that is so inspiring to me.
I also love me some David Whyte and John O'Donahue poetry. I would
love to read you some! What poetry can you introduce me to?
Movies: Wet Hot American Summer (by a landslide), Into The Wild,
Zoolander, Adaptation, Office Space, Requiem for a Dream, The
Shawshank Redemption, Easy Rider, The Big Lebowski, Back to the
Future, Pan's Labyrinth, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Saving Grace, School of
Rock, the X Men.. Just saw Argo. Awesome!! And Sliver Linings
Playbook is one of my latest faves.
I could eat Thai food everyday and not get sick of it. I love any
Asian food really, and I bring salami and cheese on every camping
trip I go on (yes I know that's not Asian). But in general,
healthy, whole, local, simple and fresh is what I aim for. I'm no
longer a vegetarian as of about three years ago. Thank the
I don't have a TV :-)
