My self-summary
O.K., here's the deal: Wicked-smart,well-travelled, bring-home-to-mommable fella looking for that elusive spark to take us on the ride.
Sunday New York Times Crossword Puzz, wine ,thrown-together dinner parties with good friends....or pizza and loungy Jeopardy evenings or spontaneous trips on a whim to wherever the hell we wanna go. You: A grown-up. Up for it. A voter,a listener, a reader, a caring citizen of the world and wickedly engaged. You're not just interesting....you're interested and you can keep up.You love your job, know how to string a few sentences together and don't regard books as foreign objects or doorstops. You're a head-turning, life-grabbing,world-shaking, lover of all things beautiful and want to ride this insane roller-coaster together. You're nice to waiters and old people, you stop and smell the roses and you love me as I love you. Unconditionally. A toughie. But it can be done. I've seen it. I've been tempered by the usual episodes of heartbreak but think I've grown wiser....and funnier with the years. If you can't laugh at this life - stay home and watch it on tv -Life is to be lived fully.Wanna go rock-climbing?, jump out of a perfectly good airplane ?(it's fun). Wanna just sit on the porch and ponder the possibilities while we watch the freaks roll by?... I'm your fella. Edumacated, employed, from a big, wonderful family scattered all over the globe, baggage-less and free of drama. You've gotta be, too, please. Been there, done that, thanks - just have your shit relatively together. Just sayin'.
Recently had a wonderful trip to Thailand and ate the best food of my life from street vendors...capped off by lovely weird-sounding drinks overlooking the lurid, colorful craziness of Bangkok. But on my own. And at the end of the day wished I could share it with someone amazing who "gets it". And who appreciates that for every fabulous trip to Thailand...sometimes karma has to send you to Baltimore for two months right after that. I'll explain later.
I'll hold your hand at the movies and through life and we'll get through the thick and thin of it together. Promise. You in? Carpe frikkin' diem. Oh.... p.s - I'm a pretty decent cook.
What I’m doing with my life
The best I possibly can.
I’m really good at
You're pretty sharp...you tell me.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
The Sunday New York Times, N.Y. Observer, The Economist,Keith Richards' "Life", Pablo Neruda Collected Poems, The Little Prince, Reynolds Price Collected Stories, too many bad scripts. I own too many books to count and always seem to have two or three going at once. Re-reading "Brideshead Revisited" right now.
Food? Yes. Definitely love me some food.
Not so much with the t.v., although "Flight of the Conchords" had me jazzed for awhile and I'm enjoying the guilty pleasures of "True Blood" (But what's with the faeries, man?!). Mad Men just does it for me. I was born in the wrong era.
Music: Wilco, Iron and Wine, Cat Empire,Bach, Charlie Parker,Tom Waits, Eva Cassidy, Billie Holliday, Adele, Sondre Lerche, Phoenix, Avishai Cohen, Miles Davis,Led Zeppelin, Tony Bennett, Brahms. Get the picture?
Fave films: Godfather II, The Bicycle Thief, Annie Hall, Nashville, What's Up, Doc?, Chinatown, Withnail and I,The Major and The Minor - I could make an epic list like AFI - but I won't. I dig movies, period. And sometimes get to make them. Which is pretty neat.
The six things I could never do without
passport
camera
a book
a sense of humor
tunes
pinot noir
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The perfect cheese plate.
On a typical Friday night I am
Love exploring new eating joints in out of the way places. Can alternate between being a bed monkey (cold pizza and a good book, snoozing away in the hammock) to jumping in the car and heading anywhere from the rocks at Joshua Tree to the a spin up the coast. Rain or shine. It's about the company. Life is short. Let's make it count.
