I am brainy, eclectic, and imaginative.
My Self-Summary
I'm very eclectic and very much a girlie girl. But I LOVE
sports. Hoping to make a
buddy for Sunday football. I like a lot of different
music. I'm a classically
trained flutist who performs with two different Dallas area
community bands. I listen to everything from
Fleetwood Mac to
Moby to
Vangelis and
Enya. I prefer to play classical music
rather than listen to it. I like all the usual stuff - dinners,
movies, art museums, putt putt, speed zone, flying a kite at White
Rock Lake. I take
Time,
Sports Illustrated,
D Magazine and
Texas Monthly. I
want to go on the adventures I read about in TM every month - be a
tourist in my own home town and state. I'm a self employed
hairstylist (no, asking me for a haircut is not a good ice
breaker). I'm very intelligent and can talk about nearly anything.
I have an intense curiosity about nearly everything. I love to
learn about new things! Ever see the show
Made in America? LOVE it!
I'd love to meet someone who's as eclectic as I am. Someone who can
take me on an adventure and not me dragging someone on one of mine.
Someone to go, see and do. I'm not much of an outdoors person, but
boats are fun and I can be talked into camping occasionally.
Remember! I said up front I'm a girlie girl! A love of sports is a
must. Please! I'd much rather find a game on tv than any reality
show. Ok, I'd take LA Ink over another bad Ranger game........ My
ideal guy is a little bit of a bad boy, but very responsible in
their life (engineering degree a bonus - I have a thing for
engineers - yeah, I know it's weird). I prefer someone my age or
older. NOT younger - please. I get a lot of that, and I'm just not
interested. Too much of a difference in frame of reference and life
experience. I'm a professional person, I hope you are too. I would
like to find someone who really wants to be in a relationship if
all things click. I enjoy spending time with a significant other
and having fun. If it's not fun, what's the point?
What I’m doing with my life
Right now it's pretty simple - working and teaching. I volunteer to
teach flute at a Dallas HS. It really truly is one of the most
rewarding things I've ever done. I love my girls and want them to
succeed. They really have no idea why I show up week after week to
work with them. Most will never pick up a flute after high school.
What they don't know, yet, is how much the experience will stay
with them long after they graduate.
I started working on a music degree a few years ago. I started at
Brookhaven because they had a flute choir. I really never intended
to go full on as a major, but somehow it happened. Then life got in
the way and I haven't finished at the two year level. At the time,
I said I couldn't finish a four year because I couldn't stand two
more years of theory and ear training (if you've been a college
music student, you understand!). Now, after teaching for almost a
year, it's making me want to finish. This just might be my
retirement job. It never ceases to shock me how music is just IN
me. I went to hear this dude at the Granada a couple of weeks ago,
and I'm standing there listening to this really cool
Texas/blues/rock/alt country stuff and I'm thinking, "I really need
to go home and work on learning some blues scales." I don't wanna
be a rock star, I just wanna write like one! LOL
I’m really good at
Hmmm.........I'm really good at a lot of things. I type like a
fiend - can ya tell? I crochet really well - I can do afghans and
stuff, but I can do the thread crochet like your Grandmother did. I
can whistle loud at football games (no body wants to stand next to
me when I do.) I'm really good at problem solving. I'm creative and
like to do different stuff like business/personal cards for
friends, help them design a room, stuff like that.
Dang - this was a little harder than I thought. I'll have to add to
this later. I wanted this section to be about stuff I DO that not
everyone can do. I could totally add that I'm a GREAT kisser, but
that's for me to know.

The first things people usually notice about me
Physically - you can see my picture. It's definitely in the eye of
the beholder. What do YOU notice about me?
But me personally - the first thing people notice is I am very
smart.....and maybe a little opinionated. They also notice I'm
passionate - I wear my emotions out on my sleeve and you never have
to wonder what I'm thinking. But (!) it's in a good way. I'm older
and my goal is to entertain my clients and friends - I'm usually
telling something funny ON MYSELF. I also get a lot of laughs when
that passion and intelligence turns to the subject of sports. I
always surprise people who don't know me that I really am sports
crazy and know a lot. (Disclosure: I probably watch too much Sports
Center in the morning.)
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: I used to only read stuff about murder and mayhem -
Stephen King,
Tom Clancy, the
Kellermans, Robin Cook and on. But the last few years, I've picked
up some different stuff. I went back to read classics that other
kids read in HS - like Catcher in the Rye, 1984, Animal Farm, etc.
I've read a few more 'best seller' types and glad I did. Right now,
I'm really behind on reading. I mention the magazines I take
somewhere else here. I'm behind reading those!
Movies: I really like Indie type films. Give me something to chew
on. I don't like to be spoon fed. I enjoy a lot of mainstream
stuff, too. Action, sci fi, comedies, but not so much in to
straight on chick flicks. Ok, but one I did LOVE was Steel
Magnolias. I want to be Ouiser when I grow up! LOL My all time fave
movies: Blade Runner, 1941, American Beauty, Secretary and about 10
or 15 more that I'll think of later.
Music: I LIKE classical music, but do prefer to play it than listen
to it. Along those lines, I also like movie soundtracks - not
everything, but some stuff stands out to me. John Williams is a
freaking genius - he doesn't just write music, he writes
characters. Danny Elfman is great, too. I love how these guys are
instantly recognizable when you hear their stuff. I think this type
of music has become modern 'classical' music. Two of my fave
soundtracks, however, are Run Lola Run and Changing Lanes. More
clubby ambiant type stuff. Very well used in the films. I think
Tarantino is also a genius with using music in his films.
I like to listen to a lot of different stuff. In my studio it's a
lot of Vangelis, Enya, etc. I prefer to have music with no words
because it's less distracting in the salon. If it had words, I'd
want to sing along all the time! My clients might not enjoy that so
much - I'm a musician, not a singer. In the car, it's
ESPN and the Ticket. When
there's nothing on there it's on
NPR. I'm an information junkie. I like NPR
because they tell stories within the news and not screaming it at
me. NPR is knocked for being liberal, but that's not what I get out
of it. Again, I don't like to be spoon fed an opinion either.
Back to music - I'm a child of the 70's and early 80's. Fleetwood
Mac and
Pink
Floyd are my two fave bands. But I also listened to
Blondie (from way back),
the
Go-Go's,
B-52's,
ZZ Top,
Van Halen, Journey,
Foreigner, Heart, etc, etc. I'd add
U2 (best concert I ever saw),
Smash Mouth, the
Cranberries,
and more. I'm a little lost on a lot of new music because I don't
listen to commercial radio. But a good song always filters down to
me eventually.
My Dad is a musician, too. A Sax player. So, I also grew up
listening to a lot of jazz - mostly fusion, the
Crusaders,
Tower of Power and
Earth, Wind,
and Fire type stuff. I was really blessed to be exposed to so
much different stuff from a very young age.
Food: LOL Look at me! I love food! Being a native Texan, Mexican
food is my absolute fave. I've been many places in the world and
hate staying away for too long because I want to come home for some
real food! But I'm willing to try many different things.
The six things I could never do without
My friends and family - my music - my work. Those were the easy
ones. I also can't do without Texas, sports, and Mexican food.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
LOL Sports! That is the first thing that came to mind, but I think
I'm starting to look obsessive. I dunno........what does one spend
a lot of thinking about? Lately, it's been music and my future. How
can I keep bringing these kids along, how can I help improve a
music program at a school that doesn't have any money to spend on
it, should I really finish a four year so I can teach more, etc and
so on. I've had a lot of change in the last year. I thought my
future was laid out for me as a wife and step Mom, but he died
suddenly in a motorcycle accident in 2007. I hate blurting that
out, but it has colored my thinking - obviously. I just don't have
a lot of big expectations right now. Teaching, my work, my friends,
and being able to enjoy the things I DO enjoy (like the stupid
sports thing) has gotten me through all this. Every single day is
about keeping perspective and one foot in front of the other.
People pay lip service to the saying "Life is too short." I KNOW
what that really means. So, I guess I just don't waste time
thinking about crap that doesn't matter. No time for negativity in
any way. Life is too short.
On a typical Friday night I am
Well, until a week or so ago, my Friday nights were spent at high
school football games with the band kids I teach. I have to say,
that really was so much fun. I usually try to at least find
something to do with my friends. I have girlfriends who like to do
the dinner and a movie thing as a small group or stay in with some
other friends to watch the Mavs. I was invited recently to go to a
concert at the Granada. Had a blast. Just whatever strikes.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I don't really care for mayonnaise. I prefer Miracle Whip -
especially on a sammich.

Message me if you find what I've put down here interesting. I am a
very well rounded person looking for the same. Message me if you
just like to explore stuff. And if you like sports. ;-)
