My self-summary
• The nicest thing anyone ever said about me is that I can see the best in other people and make them better. I hope that's true.
• I'm a spiritual seeker/goofball/businessman/artist.
• I make pretentious and insubstantiatable interpretations of films & music and encourage others to do the same.
• I'm hyper-educated but casual and often silly.
• Not only do I know I have feelings, I can talk about them.
• I have been to over 50 countries - but never South America!
• Sometimes I'm subversive - but in a funny, not mean way.
• Community and passion drive my work and I like to create and to listen.
• I'm decidedly and unabashedly on the Left.
• I'm an obsessive music and film buff.
• Artichokes and avocados are my favorite foods, but I don't like other vegetables that start with an A.
• I had a relatively scarless childhood and have untroubled, close relationships with my parents.

What I’m doing with my life
I am primarily a filmmaker and writer. To pay the bills I consult with small businesses and nonprofits and coach individuals. I used to work at social justice nonprofits and have had some corporate jobs that no one wants to talk about. I'm active with an organization that teaches kids about conflict resolution and how to value diversity.
I’m really good at
- putting people at ease, making them laugh, helping people to be better than they were.
- sometimes I'm good at soccer or swimming!
- For some reason I seem particularly gifted at remembering 80's trivia - go on, test me, I know you wanna . . .
- I like to think that I am good at keeping the ecological footprint of myself and two dogs to a minimum around the house.
- gardening. I have a green thumb, which is ironic if you know me
- I'm a jack of all trades but mostly into ideas, creation, and understanding people
- I may be the best in the world at throwing the aerobie (a frisbee-like ring). My friends argue that I am but I haven't played catch with the whole world yet.
- Developing new choreography for Cyndi Lauper's masterpiece "She Bop" for my inner robot and my dogs. Yes, I know what the song means, but I haven't told my dogs yet.
The first things people usually notice about me
I shave my hair really short. Or my deep blue eyes. Some women compliment my butt but I think they are just trying to get into my pants ;)
Some people have said I have an old soul, but maybe they said "lost soul" and I hadn't heard them right?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I tend to look for books, film or music with a human message, and some political meaning. I believe art should inform us about ourselves. But, that said, I think "Dude, Where Is Your Car?" is hilarious!

Books: Steinbeck, Rilke, Melville, Sebald and lots of nonfiction

Movies: Are you kidding me? I got a top 100! How about directors?
Akira Kurosawa, both Andersons (PT and Wes), Sidney Lumet, Robert Altman, Wim Wenders, Woody Allen, Ingmar Bergman

I don't watch TV.

Music: Brett Dennen, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Bragg, Sarah McLachlan, Peter Gabriel, Led Zeppelin, Depeche Mode, Bob Marley, Portishead, any ska, Belle&Sebastian, The X X, Van Morrison, Prince, The Police, Rolling Stones, Fiona Apple, Beck, Johnny Cash, Cure, Elvis Costello, Crowded House, Dire Straits, U2, Tears for Fears, Velvet Underground, Suzanne Vega, Neil Young
German and Italian cuisine is comfort food. But I love French, Thai, Mexican, sushi and Indian.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
I'm working on spending less time thinking and more time feeling. But I seem to suck at meditation even after two years of practice.
On a typical Friday night I am
working - eek! or at the movies, or with friends - or all three . . .
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I sing along with "Teenage Dream - Katy Perry" and I will use "disassemble" rather than "deconstruct," but I will do neither with Katy Perry.

I'm looking for intellectual connection: someone into discussing ideas and people and less into facts, numbers, or things.
I'm not fussy about a woman's height or age or size. I have a soft spot for BBWs and curvy women - especially if they have intelligence, emotional maturity, and confidence. But I'm not single-minded because it's most important to me to find a life partner with whom I can eventually have a family (I prefer biological but willing to adopt as well), so I want to meet women of the same mind set and life-stage.
I tend to do better with more expressive and extroverted women.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 27–39
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating
You should message me if
- you are wildly open-minded, intellectually curious, and love those meandering conversations about film, music, or the state of the world and what we should do about it that keep us up all night.
- you want to meet someone cool. I've met a number of people from this site over the years and never had a bad experience. Some women have become good friends, great loves, even business partners. I don't know what will happen with you but I can promise at least a good conversation.
