I am penny-wise, pound-foolish, and puzzled.

My Self-Summary

My favorite thing is to be exhausted after a hard day's work for a good cause. I wish I got to feel that way more often.

My second favorite thing is to laugh so hard that I pee my pants and go blind. This is theoretical, since I've only managed one of the two.

I'm not sure what my third favorite thing is.

My fourth favorite thing is to put an old LP on the record player and find out that I can still hear the music through the crackling.

My fifth favorite thing is to try out something new, find out that I'm bad at it, and then do it anyway. Recently: swing dancing and basketball.

These are a few of my favorite things, in lieu of a self-summary.

What I’m doing with my life

I am a photographer. I use large-format cameras to make black-and-white pictures of people and places. Sometimes I build cameras, too. I would like, one day, to hold the world record for the largest portable photographic negative ever made (the current mark is 8 feet x 4.5 feet). To help with the yacht payments, I also work as a tutor.

I’m really good at

Given time and access to my folder of recipes, I'm a pretty good cook.

The first things people usually notice about me

Beard!

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I do like me some lit'rachure: Sappho, Shakespeare, Stendhal, etc. History, as well: recently, that of ancient China and revolutionary America. Recommend something to me and there's a fair chance I'll read it (especially if it was written before World War I). I'm kind of nuts about classical music and old paintings - I'll travel hundreds of miles to hear my favorite pianist perform or see a landscape by Shi-tao. I like some artsy movies (The Seven Samurai, Scenes from a Marriage) and some popular movies (Wall-E, The Big Lebowski). I love to cook food of all different kinds with my friends. Um, and eat it.

The six things I could never do without

A large-format camera, decent peanut butter, my childhood friends, tea, a car, and Beethoven.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

what I'm going to do tomorrow.

On a typical Friday night I am

Tutoring; afterwards, perhaps poker, contra dancing, or video games.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I once ruined Christmas with a staph infection. Bonus: I'm 2/3 the man I used to be.

You should message me if

you don't mind that I'm sillier than I come across in these answers. But I ain't the boss of you. Do what you want.
