I am introverted, laid back, and eclectic.

My Self-Summary

I love music and have spent a significant amount of time trying to learn guitar. I like to game as well, especially board games and card games. I play Magic: The Gathering and have a large stack of board games sitting on my shelf waiting for people to decide that they want to play them. I also own several video game systems that are older than me, they get used less now than they used to. I cook elaborate meals sometimes, but this seems to sometimes involve a fire extinguisher, so that kind of cooking usually only happens once or twice a week.

Be aware that I tend to be rather free spirited and laid back; I refuse to sweat the small stuff. I know where I am going in life, but I am not really in a hurry to get there. This bittersweet symphony that is life is too just too short to spend every waking hour rushing into things. That said, I wish there were 36 hours in a day so I actually had enough time to get around to all of the things I actually want to do. If I could save time in a bottle...

I like to go road tripping; I am not sure why. I hardly do that as much as I used to because of how much I have to go through on a weekly basis, but when I find the time, I want to go see some places.

What I’m doing with my life

I am currently finishing my degree in electrical engineering and am looking for a decent job. In the meantime I work at a comic book shop, mostly taking care of the gaming supplies. I love the job to death; we have a sort of dysfunctional family between my coworkers and my boss.

After I graduate I intend to spent some time establishing myself as an engineer then going back to school. Being well educated never hurt anyone, well, except maybe in 17th century New England.

I’m really good at

I like teaching people how to play games. I have wasted days at the store explaining to people what they have to do to actually be decent at Magic or any of the other card games that seem to become popular at the store. Besides that I am mathematically and mechanically inclined, whatever that means.

The first things people usually notice about me

That I am tall and posses an unusually large frame. I tend to be quiet in large crowds and people seem to draw strange conclusions from this. I talk quite a bit more when I feel comfortable in a situation. I also have blue eyes, some people notice that straight off, some people do not.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Authors: HP Lovecraft, Phillip K Dick, Gibson, Nietche, Roger Zelazny, Douglas Adams. I consider myself well read, but I always seem to find more books that I need to read. It is not uncommon for me to visit Half-Price Books and walk out with am armful of books. I am currently on a comic book kick because my job allows me to get the books a little cheaper than normal. I just finished Y: The Last Man. Alas, poor Yorick I hardly knew thee. Currently I am looking for a new series to start on, suggestions are welcome.

Movies: Bladerunner, The Incredibles, Cowboy Bebop, City of Lost Children, Kung Fu Hustle, Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey. I have a weakness for bad science fiction movies, animated films, and good action movies.

Music: I'll go for genres instead of band names. I prefer folk and rock, and I love folk rock. Most of the time I also listen to popish electronic music and jungle with some classical and and a little jazz thrown in for flavor. David Bowie is my personal hero. If you want more specific information you can look at http://www.last.fm/user/StarryXenos it has a pretty detailed analysis of what I actually listen to, minus my LP collection.

I'm a vegetarian, but I am quite easy going about it. I get offered Barbecue every other day at work.

The six things I could never do without

Music, duct tape, staying up until five in the morning talking with good friends, family, books, and music. If it was an emergency I could probably make it with a Leatherman and a large roll of duct tape.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Music theory, game theory, coding SOC DSPs and how stuff works in general.

On a typical Friday night I am

Playing card games, or working, usually both. Otherwise I would probably be lost somewhere, hopefully listening to good music, or just chilling with friends.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

My sense of humor is rather unusual. I actually hid quotes from random songs in this profile to amuse me whenever I reread it.

You should message me if

I am uncertain that this section really needs to exist, but if you want extra guidance, I'll probably be interested in talking to you if:

You want to find people to play board/card/video games with.

You actually read this profile all of the way through and think I may be interesting.

See the line above this one.

You appreciate self-referential and ironic humor.

You think you can beat me at Millipede. (That is a challenge)

You figured out any grammatical errors I made on here. I seriously would appreciate the help.

You like guys with beards.

You are actually willing to tell people what you want. I dislike playing those games.

If you have come to understand that the flat old earth is in your gentle hands.

It is important to me that I am also friends with my partners. Life seems a little bit better when you can have fun just hanging out with that special someone.

Honestly if you want to talk, drop me a line, I never mind interesting conversation.
