My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
It has been an amazing journey so far.
I am originally from Germany, came to the US at age 16 and moved to Los Angeles by myself in '79.
Since then life has been an adventure. I didn't exactly stay put, spent some time in Chicago, tried Germany again (Berlin in '89) as well as 15 years in the Bay Area.
I am someone who almost always chooses the path less traveled and doesn't shy away from challenges.
I fell in love, become a father, got married and bought a house all in 1 1/2 years? Yes, I am pretty spontaneous at times!
I was married for seven years and have two kids, a son, 20, and daughter, 18. Even though the marriage didn't work, I still am thrilled to be a father.

My life has been dynamic, filled with travel, challenging projects and my never-ending curiosity. I do have a lot of energy and it keeps me young at heart.
As for myself, I am fairly complex, but know myself very well and own it all the way.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I have already had an amazing career in Visual Effects and then transitioned to directing and writing. So, I live a bit of a bohemian, free-lance life now : directing and writing scripts, and, of course, still doing visual effects.
I love to cook and if I hadn't landed so gloriously in film, I hopefully would have ended up in the food industry (although those hours are even worse than the film business!).
Of course I wanted to be a rock star back when I was 16. Still play the guitar and piano as a hobby... next time around : )
To keep fit, I mostly like to hike and practice yoga every so often. Am not the gym rat at all... somehow I keep fit without it.
In addition to my place in the Hollywood foothills, I had a flat in Larkspur, Marin county, that I am just now moving out of. I will miss retreating to that Redwood tree canyon for the weekend once or twice a month. It is so fantastic not having to get into a car to head out onto the trails. Well, I'll be looking for a similar spot somewhere in the LA area... that "spot in the country" to escape to (any suggestions anyone?)
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Being a father - it has made me a better man.
I guess it is because I very much enjoy to nurture, in the simplest ways. Having people over for dinner, giving advice (only when requested, I swear!), etc.
Cooking is a creative outlet for me and makes me happy, even just for myself.
I seem to end up in charge most of the time, not that I don't
mind handing off the reins every so often....
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Hmm ... my eyes and my smile.
Also, I think people notice that I am not "from here" ... meaning that I have a different style, am from another culture (maybe I just like to think that so feel more "special" in this town!).
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

More lists ... I am very eclectic when it comes to all of the above. In other words, it is more about the quality than it is about the genre. Mostly, I am an emotional creature in regards to how I respond to art. If it touches me and makes me feel something, then I enjoy it. I also love it when I find a profound notion about life in any form of art.
In other words ... my lists would be much too long ... we'd have to
go on an endless road trip for me to share it all ... which sounds
like a great idea!
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Love,my children, art, food, wine, hot showers ... wait, only six ????

But really, what could I not ever do without?
I did a seven day fast summer last year at my favorite Desert Hot Springs spa. No food, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, etc. Never missed any of it. I felt rather calm and relaxed by the end of those seven days.
A few years back, I partook in a six day silent retreat at Spirit Rock. Not speaking for all that time was just fine, yet, sitting and meditating for 6 hours or so a day wasn't. I much preferred going solitary hikes since my body likes to move and is more at peace that way.
I guess, I could not do without moving my body... or just haven't tried hard enough!
What I have learned is to not take anything for granted and to be aware of what some "thing" means to me and why.
Although I don't think too much about the meaning of hot showers, I just love them!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Life ... yeah, that one.
It is important for me to reflect about what happens in my life and to sort out all those little details.
One of my favorite quotes is "An unexamined life isn't worth living".
I also often make a mental list of countries and place yet to visit... it is something to look forward to!
Otherwise, I am terribly aware and conscious - meaning that I pay attention to the politics of life - food, culture, the government, capitalism, etc.
Let's just say my brain isn't easily turned off - but I'd like you to try!
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Hmm, I don't have "typical" Friday nights ... and that is just fine with me. There the adventure of every weekend wondering what it will be!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I am both: fairly jaded, but then also an eternal romantic. I am somewhat of a split personality in that regard, but otherwise fairly sane.
I do believe in the magic of falling in love, those butterflies and the fact that one just can't help it.

you have gotten a little glimpse and think you might "get me". I could write pages to all the questions above, but connecting with another person is only partially about that. That is the magic about life, when you know, you know, regardless of a string of facts!
